Don't understand how these leftists haven't learned from their comrades in the U.S.S.R.: As a politician, you maintain your "street cred" and avoid accusations of hypocrisy by donating your entire salary to the "Party" - which, in turn, awards you the privilege of shopping at special restricted stores, where you can buy loads of caviar for pennies, etc. You also categorically
refuse to own real estate, because you want to show that you are "down with the cause" - but the "Party" provides you, free of charge, with a "modest dacha" (in reality: worth several million $) on Martha's Vineyard. All overt signs of wealth are thus concealed or relabelled!
That's the "communist" way to do things!
