‘Volnado’ spins skyward as Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano erupts

A live camera at Hawaiʻi’s Kīlauea volcano captured a rare sight this week — a swirling “volnado” forming next to a fountain of lava, the latest dramatic reminder of the mountain’s restless nature.

The video released by the US Geological Survey (USGS) shows a column of ash sucked into a whirling vortex as molten rock bursts skyward.

The spinning cloud resembled a tornado — but with volcanic heat fueling its rise.

“We know you’ve heard of a volcano … but how about a volnado?” the USGS joked in a social media post that quickly spread across science and nature forums.

According to scientists, these whirlwinds appear when scorching air from erupting lava collides with cooler air above the crater. The turbulent mix can twist into a visible vortex, sometimes carrying ash and gas hundreds of feet into the sky.

This week’s activity marked the 32nd eruptive episode at Kīlauea since December, underscoring the volcano’s reputation as one of the most active on Earth. The eruption ended abruptly overnight, and officials said no homes or communities were threatened.

Kīlauea, located on Hawaiʻi’s Big Island about 200 miles south of Honolulu, sits within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.

For the rest of you who just saw ' ʻ ' for the first time ever -

The ʻokina (Hawaiian pronunciation: [ʔoˈkinɐ]) is the letter that transcribes the glottal stop consonant in Hawaiian. It does not have distinct uppercase and lowercase forms, and is represented electronically by the modifier letter turned comma: ʻ.

A phonemic glottal stop exists in many other Polynesian languages as well; these are usually written by a similar apostrophe-like letter.

Notice the global warmists won’t issue a single word on how much CO2 volcanos emit that help expose their international fraud. Am enjoying that the Euroweenies are about to financially collapse from their massive swindling.

Hardly anything resembling a tornado.

I put no faith in primitive religions like Anthropogenic Global Warmingism; they hold their dogma as irrefutable and despite decades of failed predictions depending primarily on computer modeling refuse to acknowledge real-world data and alternative hypotheses choosing instead to insist the entire world sacrifice their hard-earned money and children to their earth-goddess Gaia.

One good supervolcano would make all their arguments moot.

Oh please - the Hawaiian language and for that matter, Hawaiian culture is crap: it's always been crap. I lived there for three involuntary years and the whole violent, primitive mess should have disappeared long ago.

Try raising kids in their school system, try getting anything but corruption from the government/police/judicial system and try walking anyplace at night by yourself.

The quoted USGS official is lucky. Pres Trump has named me “Cutesy Words Czar.” It’ll be a while before I get to anyone who has spoken the word “Volcnado.” The granddaddy of stupid cutesy words is “chocoholic,” and it’s going to take me years yet to deport everyone who has ever said that to Antarctica. I’ll get to this guy, though
