The Department of Transportation is dropping a proposed rule that would have required airlines to offer cash to passengers whose flights were disrupted.

The rule, which never went into effect, would have required carriers to provide compensation "to mitigate passenger inconveniences" for cancellations or delays that were within a carrier's control.

Obviously Pocahontas was not involved in this sensible decision.

It wouldn’t have taken 24 hours before a group of people learned how to game that system.

FTA...... the Transportation Department shelved the proposal introduced under Biden and then-Transportation Secy Buttigieg......would’ve required airlines to pay up to $300 for domestic delays of three to six hours and up to $775 for flight delays lasting at least nine hours........

The Biden proposed rule states: “The ability of airlines to choose the services that they provide to mitigate passenger inconveniences resulting from flight disruptions under current U.S. law contrasts with consumer protection regimes in other jurisdiction.”

Many years ago I was stuck at an airport for 8 hours after flight after flight was scratched with zero explanation.

The destination for everyone on this particular flight was a 6 hour drive away.

Also on this flight was a large party trying to get to a funeral.

If the airline had been upfront about whatever the heck was going on, and it wasn’t weather related as we later discovered, the folks going to the funeral could have rented some vehicles and made it to the funeral.

As it was we all were stuck there while flight after flight was scratched.

We ended up getting to our destination early in the evening.

But I guarantee you no amount of money would have recompensed those folks for what the airline did.

That experience is just another reason I haven’t set foot on an airplane in over twenty years.

Leave it to Buttigage to devise a plan to get played.

Well bully for you, I get fed up with airlines lack of transparency too, but your refusal to fly also means you haven’t been to Greece or Malta or Italy or Scotland or other beautiful places in 20 years. You can’t drive there. And those places are worth seeing.

Au contraire.

I’ve flown all over the US.

I’ve flown to countries in Europe.

But I did most of my flying decades ago when people were passengers, not cargo.

When flying was a joy.

If people are again treated like passengers instead of cattle by airlines, I’ll fly again.

By disruptions, I thought they were talking about some crazy dyke punching the guy sitting next to her for voting for Trump or somebody getting diarrhea all over the bathroom after voting for the Alfalfa and Walz ticket.

Do Amtrak, bus companies, and other passenger transportation services have similar regulations requiring them to offer cash to passengers when cancellations or delays are within a carrier’s control?

One regulation that WOULD BE appreciated by the public is a requirement that transportation employees tell the known truth to passengers about cancellations or delays at the time they occur, rather than spouting some euphemistic gibberish that is meaningless or simply not true.

Have you ever flown on an airplane?

Is that truly your greatest concern?

” you haven’t been to Greece or Malta or Italy or Scotland or other beautiful places in 20 years. You can’t drive there.”

My sister and her husband have seen all those places, and many more, via sea.

“And those places are worth seeing.”

An opinion. Personally, those places aren’t worth seeing to us. So much of America to explore.

Flying used to be comfortable ... even fun. Now it’s torture.

I've taken my last flight last night. Never again will I subject myself to the degrading, dehumanizing experience known as commercial air travel.

True, America is worth exploring. Also true that if you are flying overseas you must do first class so you can sleep.

Yep, flying used to be a glamorous experience (showing my age, I know). Now it is a miserable experience.
