Iconic Meals on Wheels charity pulls out of nightmarish Democrat-run city over rampant crime and safety fears

Meals on Wheels has stopped operating in downtown Portland as its frustrated bosses say they can't keep staff safe in the crime-ridden city.

The charity said this week it is closing its two facilities in the city, with frustrated Meals on Wheels Chief Executive Officer Suzanne Washington telling reporters it was a 'long time coming.'

Washington lamented a lack of action to curb crime as the reason for the decision, which brought the charity's 20-year stay at its popular Elm Court location to a close.

'I can’t keep our staff safe and our volunteers safe because there’s always something happening,' she said, per KION.

'We’ve been threatened with knives, and fires have been set. It was time to close.'

Washington said Meals on Wheels has not operated in-person dining at the Elm Court location since it was closed in the pandemic, and has since been serving as a hub for delivery drivers to pickup meals for local residents in need.

But she said that even the reduced operations were hampered by threats caused by the crumbling city.

Washington said the charity has been continually losing volunteers due to the conditions they are forced to work in, including coming face-to-face with vagrants and criminals almost every day.

'Every day, they’re stepping over feces, and there’s needles and drug dealing and deaths,' she said.

The charity chief added that she has personally had to deal with the same challenges, recalling a recent incident where she had to step over a body to get into a Meals on Wheels facility.

Not one of those things. If it didn’t work then try something else.

If they had the ability to feel shame.

We've always had mongrels like that. They're known as sociopaths and psychopaths. But back when America was still a Christian nation, we dealt with them accordingly.

Then we expelled Christ in favor of a religion called "humanism." Every human is free to do his own thing.

It doesn't work. Not here. Not any culture that embraced it throughout history.

Portland and Seattle.

Kinda like amusement parks for anarchists and drug addicts.

Yep, they get the right people in power to allow the crime to manifest which provides the opportunity to take over the city or state.

It is not their first rodeo but those complaining are merely rodeo spectators at this point.

yes, it was....I lived in Beaverton and took the light rail in to downtown Portland.... the city at the time had a large population of homeless kids mostly runaways that lived in the downtown area. there was a subculture there of angry kids We would have riots about leftist causes in the town that at the time would be put down fairly fast. My only thought is that those kids that were rioting about global warming are the one running antifa today. there was also a party rave scene going on and a lot of ecstasy and heroin being distributed. This was 30 years ago I can only guess what it is today.

This is so sad 😔.
They help the elderly and disabled.

This story is why you should never ever vote Democrat and make sure they can't cheat their way into office either.

My friend drove delivery for them. He quit. He got tired of the unappreciative recipients who would constantly complain about the free food!

Nightly riots now too.

The thing abut the nightly riots in Portland is that they are not random. In 2020, the antifa dirtbags picked the county courthouse as their target, and attacked it every day for two months. Now they apparently have chosen the ICE facility. So the rest of the city is more or less quiet, which is why the majority of the city residents don't make that much of a stink about it.

The denizens call themselves “progressives” you know? They’re all so enlightened and ‘woke’ they can’t even get measly meals to bed ridden seniors now.

Oh, I'm sure the loving and compassionate progressives will take over delivering meals to the disabled and elderly. /s

When I had a badly broken wrist two years ago, my daughter ordered Meals on Wheels for me. Lovely people but there was not a single thing they delivered that I would eat.

Friend in the neighborhood gets Meanl on Wheels too, and eats it. But she’s a very very unhealthy person.

Anyway, Portland is a Commie city and I feel sad that old folks there can’t get what they need.

In my driving days, I drove from Seattle to CA and to FL and even back then, refused to stop in Portland for gas or food or anything. Seriously bad vibes. Friend whose daughter lives there says there are beautiful, safe areas in Portland. Sure don’t see them from the freeway.
