My top 3 is same as article’s list.
I saw Stanley Clarke with Chick Corea, Al DiMeola & Lenny White as RTF - absolutely incredible!!!
Clarke is the only one I know
I did see Ray Brown, but Chambers and Blanton died before I was born.
In my opinion the bass solo at the 2007 Crossroads Festival with Jeff Beck by Tal Wilkenfeld was breathtaking and show stopping. Magnificent. A prodigy. That sad, melancholy blues feeling brought the audience to early applause. They couldn’t help themselves.

Please find a better, good quality source for this.
I’ve heard Ray Brown on a number recordings including Diana Krall’s first album.
He was quite gifted, no question...just a different style for different tastes.
Where is Gene Wright of the Dave Brubeck Quartet? Along with Joe Morello, Paul Desmond, and Dave Brubeck, Probably the greatest of all time IMHO.
Wes Montgomery? Monk? They could play the crp outta bass.
I had a bootleg CD OF Ella Fitzgerald live at the Royal Roost in ‘48/’49, and the Ray Brown Trio backed her up. Highly recommended. [They were married at the time.]
I saw Richard Bona with Metheny, and he did Jaco proud by playing “Bright Size Life” with Pat.
Good to see Scott LaFaro included in this list.
Glad to see Eberhard Weber on the list. He played on Pat’s “Watercolors” album.
20: Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen
Should be at least in the top ten.
On Ella’s GREAT “Clap Hands” album, she does “Cry Me A River” and changes a lyric to take a shot at Ray.
I guess they did not have a friendly divorce...
I have a “dry” copy of “Clap Hands” copied direct from the studio master tape - awesome sound quality.
Scott LaFaro with the Bill Evans Trio -My Man’s Gone Now (1961)

Yes, he was great. Third best non-U.S. born jazz musician. And he often played with no. 1.
Thanks.
Huge Beck/Tal fan here.

I’m also partial to Mark Egan, the original bassist for the PMG.
