Disturbing unsolved mystery of backpacker pals who vanished hours into volcano hike... before rescuers found sinister pictures on their phones and remains scattered around jungle

The friends' phones revealed that around six hours into their hike someone tried to ring the emergency services 77 times. Between 5 and 11 April, Kremers' iPhone was turned on multiple times but the correct PIN code was never entered again - hinting that she was not the one handling the phone.

It’s a mystery, you see. I for one am perplexed. What could have possibly happened to the two young blonde girls in the jungle?

I asked chatbot the stats on Panama’s murder-ranking:

“ Panama’s homicide rate (~12.9/100k) is more than twice the global average (~5.8/100k).”

A sheltered existence. Doesn’t apply in the jungle.

I feel for the parents of these young women. It’s a parent’s worse nightmare, having a child go missing.

I guess I may be overprotective, but I would not be comfortable allowing my two daughters do something like that by themselves.

A friend’s niece - 20 yr old blonde hair, blue eyes, went backpacking across Europe with her parent’s blessings. She came back ok but this was about 10 yrs ago when things were slightly better than they are now. I thought it was outright stupid but no one asked my opinion.

Those little twinges that make you uncomfortable keep you and your family alive

Like the two Dutch girls that decided it would be a great idea to hitch-hike across remote regions of Muslim Morocco.

Darwin award.

The women embarked on their excursion on the morning of April 1, 2014.

Gee, I dunno! Somebody got them. Sad.

I am not big on adventuring solo or with one other person, especially in other countries. Lots and lots of tour companies that will take you to these place. I have a running club acquaintance - fifty-something wife and mother. She has been solo trekking the Continental Divide trail and recently fell off a cliff - survived but had to have hip surgery. She has been happily sharing her recovery photos on IG. I wish her the best, but definitely NOT for me! I want lots of company!

In 2014. Sad but old news. OP should have mentioned that in brackets following the title.

I’m reminded of an old SNL skit, it was for a condom commercial and these two White yuppies are playing basketball. The one says to the other that he had gone on vacation and didn’t have any condoms but then he says “ but I thought to myself, when am I going to be in Haiti again?”

Sinister pictures?.....that’s daily mail looking for clicks.

More telling is “the phones revealed that around six hours into their hike someone tried to ring the emergency services 77 times.”

Sounds to me like they ran across wild animals......either the four or two legged variety.

Jaguars and Crocodiles can be found in Panama....that would explain the scattered remains.

The OP had no idea. I assume the wheels of “justice” don’t move at lightning speed in the jungle. You know what moves with lightning speed in the jungle? Primitive Panamanian savages with 60 IQ’s when seeing two young blonde girls alone.

The El Pianista Trail in Boquete, Chiriquí, Panama, is a renowned 4.9-mile out-and-back hike through a mystical cloud forest, known for its challenging terrain, scenic views, and tragic history.

The trail, which starts near the Il Pianista restaurant, gains approximately 1,932 feet in elevation over 4 km, leading hikers through dense jungle, past gorges, and to a viewpoint, with the path often becoming muddy and rocky.

It is considered a hard hike, typically taking 3.5 to 4 hours to complete, and is popular year-round, though it is strongly recommended to hike with a guide due to the 2014 disappearance and subsequent deaths of two Dutch backpackers, Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon.

The above is from Brave Browser's AI.
