Did they forget something up there last time they were there?

Why bother? We’ve been to the moon and you know what’s on it? Nothing!

It’s a big rock with a lot of dust on it.

Space travel should be restricted to robotic missions. Billions... Yes... Billions are being wasted designing ships and equipment that humans either use or occupy. There is no need for such waste. Robots can pretty much do it all and they need no food, no air and take up very little space.

It only occupies one of the most strategic positions in the solar system.

There is plenty of metal and energy their, much cheaper to make it on the moon than transport it from earth.

It is only the best gateway to the riches of the solar system.

It is said that the technological spinoffs from the research necessary back in the 60s more than paid for the cost of the mission.

It will be the same again.

They are landing where the Sun literally never shines, the Lunar poles. This is because water ice has been detected there. That ice not only helps any permanent base , it also makes for the ultimate gas station. Water can be split into Hydrogen and Oxygen which can then be used as rocket fuel. It is the prime spot from where the rest of the Solar System can be exploited. If America does not get there first China will .

Bingo. A waste of time and money this time around. The prestige factor has come and gone, we have nothing to prove anymore. “We were the first on our block to have the toy,” now nothing is gained except NASA jobs.

I too think it’s a huge waste of money. Pursuing any type of space travel is too.

“””””We’ve been to the moon and you know what’s on it? Nothing!””””””

See it from Donald Trump’s young eyes, you saw astronauts on the moon, but Trump saw a guy playing golf, there is room for a golf course up there.

What’s on the moon? Location. It’s the ideal place for a base to launch larger and a greater number of space missions for your robots.

It will enhance the state of robotics, also.

That dusty rock has both strategic and industrial value. It is also important as a possible future refueling station for Mars missions. If we plan to survive the inevitable extinction level event on Earth then we must have self sustaining colonies on Mars. That will take many centuries to establish so time is of the essence.
