A deranged fan threatened to kill the dog of Red Sox pitcher Dustin May in response to a social media post by the pitcher’s wife.
May’s wife, Amelia, shared an Instagram Story that contained a picture of the couple’s dog, along with a message from an account called dustinmaywilldie, which read, “I’ll cook this dog for dinner.”
The threatening note came after May allowed five runs in the Red Sox’s loss to the Yankees on August 24.
The menacing message toward May and his pet marks only the most recent example of a disturbing trend in which Red Sox players have faced death threats or threats of harm after losses.
Boston reliever Liam Hendriks and his wife received death threats after a bad outing against the Mets in May.
While the passion of Red Sox fans is well known, Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito believes there’s a different cause for the recent spate of threats: Gambling.
Giolito raised the issue with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and spoke about it on an episode of the Baseball Isn’t Boring podcast.

Professional leagues ENCOURAGE a social media presence.
Which may have been fine and dandy before the professional leagues got in bed with the gamblers and starting SPAMMING fans with gambling promotions.
If I were a professional athlete, I’d rethink my social media presence in this age of anything goes gambling promotion.
Yeah, I know it can't be eliminated.
But having an app on your phone makes it possible for people to put up bets an unlimited number of times a day.
At least back in the day you at least had to call your bookie. And the bookie had to be willing to take the bet.
They are the worst, but Yankees fans are a close second. We used to go to a few O’s games back in the early 2000s, and after seeing them play the Yanks and Sox one time each we swore we’d never go back whenever they faced them. Terrible fans.
The John Wick movies are probably my favorites from the last decade, and rank really, really high among my all-time favorites.

Yes. I don’t take them very seriously. Ridiculous action shots with humorous relief. Lots of entertainment.
It’s mainly Keanu himself that I find so compelling. He plays the same character in every movie it seems and I find him an easy actor to watch.
I like what the other characters say about John Wick and how everyone knows who he is. Then there’s the inner workings of the High Table. Very very different and I like different.
