#1 reason should be strictly on the legal basis.

But I’m OK with revenge / retribution / paybacks.

Either one works for me.

By this sick logic we shouldn’t have had the Nuremburg trials, or any criminal trials for that matter. Might be accused of “retribution”.

Yes, it does matter. Under no circumstances should a federal employee use the power of the government to settle grudges.

We've seen that being used a great deal against Trump since 2016, and it is wrong.

But, this is not what is going on here. This is not retribution. These are the consequences of abusing the government, and it's only when the abusers are held accountable that we can ensure that it doesn't happen again.
