Liberal Ex-college Professor: “We’ve Been Sold a Bill of Goods … Called Multiculturalism”

“I’ve come to the conclusion that we’ve been sold a bill of goods.”

“And the bill of goods was called multiculturalism.”

So said liberal evolutionary biologist, researcher, ex-academic, and now podcaster and commentator Brett Weinstein. He made his comments recently during a very intellectual discussion with famed clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson, part of which was posted Friday to the latter’s YouTube channel. And the two men essentially issued a warning, albeit in the most highbrow tone. To wit:

Multiculturalism threatens Western civilization itself by prioritizing differences (read: diversity) over unity. If it is not “canceled,” the West very well may be.

The Multi-cult

The video clip opens with Weinstein, brother of famed mathematician and podcaster Eric Weinstein, expounding upon that “bill of goods.” He stated that the

problem with multiculturalism is that it sounds like something that those of us who like to interact with people from many different cultures should appreciate. But it’s in fact the opposite of … the value that we actually hold. The value that we actually hold I would call Western cosmopolitanism…. Multiculturalism is the idea that people should not join our societies, but they should maintain their own traditions in an isolated pocket, and that we should effectively reject the idea of becoming one people in the West.

At this point, Peterson interjected and pointed out that this ideology ignores

the fact that if you bring people together and reduplicate the situation of the world at large with no uniting meta-narrative … you also bring in all of the conflict.

Put simply, and as has been said, bring enough of “there” here, and here becomes there. For example, import the Third World, become the Third World.

By Bread Alone?

Peterson went on to say that this multiculturalist error is “fueled by … an underlying materialism.” He continued:

So maybe the...

"...we’ve been sold a bill of goods.”

No, perfesser, you sold yourself a bill of goods by believing what you wanted to believe without rigorous investigation.
What's worse, is that you undoubtedly instilled those beliefs into many, many students.

We were stationed in Northern Italy in the late 60s.

While there as a preteen I’d heard my parents discuss communism but I really didn’t understand what it was.

A day trip with my parents once found us at a Yugoslavian border checkpoint manned by around a half dozen guards.

We parked, got out and my father broke out his camera and attempted to take a picture resulting in every armed Yugoslavian guard leveling their weapon at my old man, accompanied by a hell of a lot of yelling in a foreign language.

Thinking better of it, my dad put his camera back in the car and they all stood down.......that was my 1st experience with communism......and at 65 y/o, I still remember it like it was last week.

When I hear the word communism the first thing that comes to my mind is “oppression”.

Yup. At 78 now I still remember the east german guards bee lining to check my papers as we entered their zone. Being a blonde headed teen sparked their interest. But not too many folks breaking in to East Germany. My bowels were tougher then so I didn’t need to change drawers. My mom was freaked out.

The problem started when the so-called scholars adopted postmodernism which argues that realities for each group is different. This resulted in (1) no shared reality, (2) no shared morality, (3) idea that all cultures are the same and (4) no privileges to local culture.

Stupidly, only Westerners hold this suicidal ideology.

The incompatibilities inherent in multiculturalism only lead to strife and disharmony. Even a child can understand that. multiculturalism has always just been used as an excuse by the left to plant division in the world, especially so in America.

The problem for ideologues in favor of multiculturalism, is they favor the foreigner & foreign cultures over their own.

Over the last 50 or 60 years we had a globalist economic and political run that is now running out of steam.

As we move through the 2020’s their way of political/economic/cultural thinking is on its way out.

I would challenge any assertion that intentions at any point were good in this debacle. So they were stupid, if not complicit.

Brett Weinstein was the center of protests that pretty much destroyed Evergreen College in Olympia, Washington. He was a liberal who deviated slightly from the liberal narrative, and so was made a target by the loony radicals there and drummed out of the school.

It didn’t take long for multiculturalism to go from food festivals to all whites are racist, colonial oppressors. The multiculturalist don’t want to assimilate in the west. They want to eat us.

Diversity and multiculturism can be good if there is a common goal where everyone brings their different approaches to reach that common goal.
The way it is pitched today, with no common goal, it just brings chaos.
Simple example is team sports, let’s say a basketball team. If one has a team with different players who have different goals the team will not ever win. One player wants to score all the points, the other wants to dribble the ball but not pass off..another believes defense is not necessary. Another thinks that boundaries are too “controlling”...
