The collapse of an under-construction railway bridge over a major river in China has killed at least 12 workers and left four others missing, state media reports said.
Aerial photos from the official Xinhua News Agency show a large section missing from the bridge’s curved aquamarine arch.
A bent section of the bridge deck hangs downward into the Yellow River below.
Sixteen workers were on the bridge in northwest China’s Qinghai province when a steel cable snapped about 3 a.m. Friday during a tensioning operation, Xinhua said.
Boats, a helicopter and robots were being used in the search for the missing.

Yep. Defective Engineering Incident.
That accident killed 12 more people than the nuclear meltdown at Three Mile Island.
Not to be crass, but in a Chinese construction project, that’s known as a rounding error.
Don’t use bamboo.
Don’t they have notoriously poor construction?
Tofu Dreg
Yeah...Semitrailer arrives at a wire factory with 10 big reels of 8mm diameter construction wire...
Departs with 11 big rolls of construction wire all labeled 8mm diameter.
Yup. It’s called tofu dreg. You Tube is chock full of videos of whole apartment buildings , multi-story buildings toppling over like something out of a cartoon.
Yes, I have seen the videos of buildings just falling apart. Not pretty.
You would need day light level illumination on every thing that could possibly fail, plus illumination on the water.
The Chinese Communist Party does not care about any individual life.
Crap cable .
We lost the Arecibo radio observatory to cable failure. Chinese cable being used to replace an old American steel cable ,I believe.
Quality matters.
Oops, I shouldn't laugh about brides collapsing. It happens in the US. One of Mom's uncle was killed when the Mianus River bridge collapsed in 1983.
