Spanish explorer Gabriel Moraga discovered and named the Sacramento Valley and the Sacramento River in either 1799 or 1808; accounts vary. Moraga wrote, “Canopies of oaks and cottonwoods, many festooned with grapevines, overhung both sides of the blue current. Birds chattered in the trees and big fish darted through the pellucid depths. The air was like champagne, and (the Spaniards) drank deep of it, drank in the beauty around them. ‘Escomo el sagrado sacramento!’” (It’s like the Holy Sacrament.)

San Buenaventura (Good fortune)
Yep. One of the many reasons that I moved out of L.A. 20 years ago was because they took the cross off the city seal. I could only see bad things for the city. Even though things had turned south back then, it got worse a lot more than I figured. And it won’t turn around until Jesus returns.
Now it’s an F’n shithole.
Amen.
St Helena, Santa Rosa.
And now its Santa Mierda.

Festooned, pellucid. Who uses those words anymore? I admire the skillful use of words and the command of them in language and writings of those from previous centuries gone by.
The woke Left conveniently leaves the Catholic and spiritual side of California’s Spanish identity — it was the main driving force of settling the state and establishing all the missions courtesy of Father Junipero Serra, who is villainized in their reading of history.
San Fernando, San Bernardino…
Can’t wait to get out of here.
“With so many Spanish names for cities and towns no wonder the southern invaders think the state is theirs.”
At one point it was!
But as someone famous once said “you only own what you are able and willing to defend by whatever means at your disposal.”
A lesson worth remembering for us.
Amen. My native state is pretty bad now (Bl. Fr. Serra must be rolling over in his grave), but nothing is beyond the grace of God.
The same thing is happening in my beloved New Mexico as it has been Californicated along with Colorado. We were warned 50 years “ DON’T CALIFORNICATE COLORADO!”
Well, it has been and now they are invading New Mexico.
Yep, those too. 👍
