Nooo! That’s not how you do it!
While trying to take a photo with a lemon shark during a birthday fishing trip Saturday in Cayo Costa, Florida, things ended up going horribly wrong for Shawn Meuse, per Gulf Coast News.
Making a recovery at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Meuse said he had a hold of the shark as he prepared to let it go back into the water when the bite took place. (RELATED: Australian Surfer Sees Board Get Smashed In Half By Great White Shark)
“You don’t know what a wild animal is going to do, you know? So that happens, we’re in his territory during this,” said Meuse.
Audio from the 911 call obtained by the outlet stated that Meuse was conscious, and to stop the bleeding, he had a tourniquet placed on his leg.
At approximately 10:55 p.m., crews responded and located the fishermen who were at the southern point of the Boca Grande beach, per the fire chief of the Boca Grande Fire Department. When they arrived at the scene, they helped EMS and treated the man’s bite. Afterwards, he was airlifted to Gulf Coast Medical.

Meuse said he was not the person who caught the lemon shark, telling the outlet he “just took it off the hook.”
You’re not supposed to have a lemon shark out of water like that in Florida state waters, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The agency’s investigating the incident.
