'No-one was expecting this': European leaders rush to US to help Ukraine avoid 'capitulation'
BBC ^ | Aug 18 | James Landale

European leaders may have rushed to Washington ostensibly to throw a protective arm around President Zelensky and head off any repeat of February's Oval Office bust-up.

But their real aim is to stop US President Donald Trump threatening long-term European security after his abrupt change of course over how best to end the war in Ukraine.

Not only did Trump drop calls for a ceasefire as a prerequisite for talks about long-term peace, he also - diplomats say - made clear he had no intention of imposing further economic sanctions on Russia.

In short, the travelling European heads of government – plus EU and Nato leaders - want to avoid not just confrontation, but also capitulation.

President Macron of France was the latest to use the C word, saying on Sunday: "There is only one state proposing a peace that would be a capitulation: Russia."

A lot of people don’t know, but just before this war began, Ukraine basically had an agreement to prevent it, and Boris Johnson (then UK Prime Minister) rushed in to tell Ukraine no.

Yep.

There are some lowlife scumbags who have been benefiting handsomely from this war.

That’s why you see certain people (Ukrainians, Americans and Europeans) acting quite desperate whenever a peace agreement seems near.

First of all, this spin isn’t true. Its more likely that the European leaders will join Trump in ganging up on Zelensky to force him into a realistic peace. Second, people would listen to Europe more if they actually had armies. Spend more than 1% of GDP on defense and people will take you seriously.

F’n BBC. Every one of the MSM scumbags is pushing the rat narrative that poor Zeke is being bullied by mean Mr. Trump aka Putin’s puppet. We don’t hate these people enough

Remember all the “help” Europe gave us during VN? I remember only the Aussies and South Koreans having a combat presence there with the US. I also remember we couldn’t bomb the main port of Haiphong bc there were French and British ships unloading materials helpful to the NVA war effort against us. So we really don’t need to have our sons and daughters be stand-ins in a war of little or no strategic significance to us and we don’t owe our European “friends” a damned thing.

Well Putin is winning. Why would he not dictate terms?

It’s fitting the European countries are represented as they will be footing the bill for defending Ukraine.

There will be a security agreement and The Euros will need to agree to that along with Zelensky and they will also have to agree to funding levels. My hope is that they also pledge to supply Ukraine in the event that there is no deal. They are the ones that don’t want to give up much, along with Z, so they need to back up their bluster with $$$.

A lot of people don’t know it because it isn’t true.

“No one was expecting this.” That’s certainly true for people who have been getting all their news from the biased and corrupt BBC, who have been misreporting about this war and its causes. Since day one.

Trump ( and Putin) havd become realists about ceasefire agreements with Ukraine…which just cannot refrain from poking the Bear when he lets down his guard. The Minsk Accords still remind the Russians that ceasefires with Ukraine, if they work at all, are used to rebuild for continuing war.

Trump has nailed it. Reach a settlement and then the shooting will cease.

All BBC stories start with the premise of “Let’s Hate Trump”. And my Tagline is still accurate.

The Ukes will not get Article 5 which commits all of NATO to war if one is attacked ( truly a stupid concept once they started admitting pipsqueaks like Montenegro and trying to incorporate countries with incipient civil instability, being goaded by external interests, like Armenia and Georgia)

Ukes may get security guarantees from selected countries but not all of NATO.
Even that is more than they deserve given their track record of persecuting nonUkrainian ethnics

The Guardian and Zelensky.

Yeah, those are a couple of irrefutable sources. 😄

I am glad we put the source before we start printing the article. The BBC is nothing but a liar so I don’t read anything they say.

... Yeah, those are a couple of irrefutable sources.

They names names and cited quotes.

Yours? Putin by way of Tucker Carlson's podcast?
