President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will hold a meeting together on Monday afternoon before they are joined by European officials traveling to Washington for key talks on the future of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Two sources told NewsNation’s Libbey Dean and Kevin Bohn that Trump and Zelensky will hold the initial meeting, which will also be attended by Vice President Vance.
That will be a rerun of the participants from an Oval Office meeting in February that went badly off the rails as Vance and Trump criticized Zelensky over his handling of the war, and for not being more appreciative of U.S. support.

“Volodmyr Reyna”
It won’t matter what any of them has to say. Trump will just jolly them along, tell them some things they would like to hear, and then he’ll do what he wants to do.

Oh, Bee Ess, Gaytor. You’re just mad because this is not a leftist, pro-JoeBama “keep handing billions of our tax dollars to the dancing queen every time he yaps for it” site.
There might be one or two actual pro-Russia posters here. Watch Marco Rubio taking it to that ditz Margaret Brennan today to get an idea of how most American FReepers stand on this.
Stop sounding so vaxxed and boosted. 🙄
😂😂😂
Like his alter ego Candy A Floss?
“There might be one or two actual pro-Russia posters here.”
People here are often very harsh on Zelensky.
Ukraine is lucky to have such a fundraiser.
Unfortunately for Ukraine, his 2023 summer offensive weakened his army badly.
His negotiating delays have enabled the Russians to get greedier. A few months ago, the Russians would almost certainly have settled for territory they already snatched.
Is Trump bringing Zelensky a suit of clothes for the occasion?
Oh, I can’t stand Zelensky. I see him as a selfish, scumbag grifter who puts his own wants and needs far above the those of the Ukrainian people. I see a lying opportunist who hates our country as well as President Trump. (He openly campaigned for Kamalamadingdong on our own soil last fall, for crying out loud.)
I also despise Putin.
I don’t trust either one of those snakes and I suspect they’re cut from the same cloth.
I just don’t want any more of my country’s materiel and treasure to be wasted on this brutal war between the Slavs. I, like President Trump would like to see the killing and destruction come to an end. But if these guys don’t want that, then they need to do this on their own.
Enough is enough.
Exactly.
That is called surrender.
That's what they called it when Gen. Robert E. Lee did it. When continuing is useless and only means soldiers dying needlessly, it is the proper and necessary thing to do.
It started earlier when Russia violated the Budapest Memorandum.
Specifically, the Budapest Memorandum of 5 December 1994 provided:
4. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America reaffirm their commitment to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine, as a non-nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the NonProliferation of Nuclear Weapons, if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used.
Ukraine was assured that UN Security Council consideration would be sought.
The matter was, in fact, referred to the UN Security Council where a motion to take action against Russia failed. And with that, the total assurance of the Memorandum was complied with.
Ukraine and Russian Federation
Entry into force: 1 April 1999, in accordance with article 39
Article 6Each High Contracting Party shall refrain from participating in, or supporting, any actions directed against the other High Contracting Party, and shall not conclude any treaties with third countries against the other Party. Neither Party shall allow its territory to be used to the detriment of the security of the other Party.
This is a pro-Russia propaganda site.
This is a site with a large contingent of neo-con keyboard commandos who want other Americans to needlessly pay for or fight every conflict in creation, while they perform their patriotic keyboard duty.
It is not Russian propaganda that Ukraine is being destroyed, or that Ukraine is suffering horrific battlefield losses. It is neo-con propaganda that Russia is employing meatwave attacks by men armed with shovels.
The result of the conflict is decided and Ukraine can no longer properly man its front lines. More territory will be taken every day. The terms for a peace settlement will progressively get worse. Continuing may lead to Russia taking Nikolaev and Odessa, leaving no future for Ukraine. Whatever they take is not being returned.
When the conflict is over, Ukraine will find out who is going to pay to rebuild.
That’s what they called it when Gen. Robert E. Lee did it.
—————
One overlooked point, the President of the Confederacy, Davis didn’t surrender, his top military General did.
My father, a decorated WWII infantryman, noted they started taking in 100,000 surrendering Germans a month in the end of Feb, March and April, months before Germany officially surrendered…..
Think Ukraine.
Vlad stated to the world and his nation his intentions from day one, take back the bordering ethnic Russian provinces.
I have read all his statements, ( something western MSM never published) he never once wavered. He will accomplish his stated objectives….if St Z will not accept territorial changes, Vlad will simply roll up to the Dniepner.
Post war analysis be grand, all the Western lies and omissions will be revealed.
I will be shocked if Trump and Zelensky take questions in the same room after the meeting.
The Ukraine that was a party to that agreement died in the spring of 2014 when a Banderist Nazi coup took the government by force. New Ukraine in Kiev started a war to conquer everything old Ukraine (which they murdered) possessed.
And by the way, a memorandum is not a treaty regarding us.
Also, if you think about it Ukraine WAS the victim of aggression of a neo-Nazi coup in 2014. So a Budapest required, Russia moved onto assist. So what are you mad about? Lol
Rebuild? I’m betting it will be massive US deficit spending, at least 5 trillion, that mostly goes straight to Blackrock.
While true that President Davis did not surrender for the Confederacy, neither did General Lee. Lee surrendered only the Army of Northern Virginia in April 1865. Other Confederate armies surrendered in June 1865. The last army to cease fighting was that of BGen Stand Watie who led a Confederate army from the Indian territory of Oklahoma. On June 23, 1865 BGen Watie entered into a "cessation of hostilities." On that occasion, neither side surrendered their arms, but agreed to walk away, fight no more, and resume normal life. Historians in general incorrectly state that Watie surrendered.

Official Records of the War of the Rebellion (Army)
O.R. Army, Series I, Vol. 48, Part 2
[1105][Inclosure No. 8.]
Executive Department, Choctaw Nation,
June 18, A. D. 1865.Whereas commissioners duly accredited by the U. S. military authorities were sent to the grand council of all the tribes of Indians lately convened at Armstrong Academy with authority to treat on the subject of peace between the Indian tribes and the United States Government; and
Whereas said commissioners did not arrive in our country in time to take a part with the authorities of said council, but have arrived at this place and conferred with the authorities of this nation; and
Whereas it is the earnest desire of this people to have an honorable and lasting peace and to resume their former friendly relations with the U. S. authorities:
Now, therefore, I, P. P. Pitchlynn, principal chief and governor of the Choctaw Nation, do make and publish this my proclamation, that by the authority in me vested and by and in accordance with an agreement entered into this day* between the said commissioners on the part of the United States and the undersigned, there will be a grand council of all the Indians of the prairies, to be convened and held on the 1st day of September, A. D. 1865, at Armstrong Academy, in the Choctaw Nation, at which time and place there will be duly authorized commissioners from the authorities of the United States to treat on the subject of a permanent and lasting peace. It is earnestly recommended and requested that all the various tribes meet at their respective place of meeting at the earliest practicable date and appoint their commissioners to attend the said grand council. It is also agreed with the commissioners aforesaid that there shall be an immediate cessation of hostilities on the part of the contending parties; that the Indians of the various tribes who have been engaged in war against the United States shall at once disband and return to their respective homes, that they may resume their usual avocations, and that they shall not be interfered with or disturbed by the U. S. authorities so long as friendly relations exist. The importance of a grand council of the character of the one contemplated at this juncture of our history under the circumstances that surround us cannot be overestimated. Our late allies in war, the Confederate armies, have long since ceased to resist the national authorities; they have all either been captured or surrendered to the forces of the United States. It therefore becomes us as a brave people to forget and lay aside our prejudices and prove ourselves equal to the occasion. Let reason obtain now that the sway of passion has passed and let us meet in council with a proper spirit and resume our former relations with the United States Government.
P. P. PITCHLYNN,
Principal Chief Choctaw Nation.
The Ukraine that was a party to that agreement died in the spring of 2014 when a Banderist Nazi coup took the government by force.
I believe that is an allusion to the Minsk Accords. Certainly, Russia was not bound in any way to the usurping government that seized control of Ukraine.
And by the way, a memorandum is not a treaty regarding us.
I have posted dozens of times that the Budapest Memorandum is not a binding treaty. It is a non-binding Memorandum. It contains no binding promises; it contains only non-binding political assurances. A political assurance is like a pinky swear. As I noted in my #31, "Ukraine was assured that UN Security Council consideration would be sought. The matter was, in fact, referred to the UN Security Council where a motion to take action against Russia failed. And with that, the total assurance of the Memorandum was complied with."
See my #107 of 8/17/2025 for long version on the Budapest Memorandum.
https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4335016/posts?page=107#107
That was the non-binding assurance of the Budapest Memorandum, and while it was not binding, the assured action was taken, predictably to no effect in the Security Council as Russia held a veto over any proposed action by said Council.
Also, if you think about it Ukraine WAS the victim of aggression of a neo-Nazi coup in 2014. So what are you mad about?
I'm not mad about a thing. I am just correcting misinformation asserting that Russia violated the Budapest Memorandum. As I stated in my #31, by the Budapest Memorandum, the U.S., UK, and Russia reaffirmed "their commitment to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine, as a non-nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the NonProliferation of Nuclear Weapons, if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used.
Rebuild? I’m betting it will be massive US deficit spending, at least 5 trillion, that mostly goes straight to Blackrock.
I'm betting that the world will not send a combined trillion dollars to rebuild Ukraine, especially if Ukraine persists until it loses Odessa. In that case, Ukraine simply becomes a failed state and various pieces are annexed by neighboring states, leaving no Ukraine to deal with. The annexing states will deal with their annexed territory.
If Ukraine is landlocked, Russia controls the former Ukrainian industrial base, and the West cannot install a military base there, it is not worth a major investment. As it is, the conflict and sanctions have drained The EU, UK and U.S. All have enough economic problems without Ukraine.
It appears that Trump wants to cut bait.
