Trump: Putin ready to sign non-aggression deal, wants Ukraine's Donbas in return

During a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the Alaska summit with Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the Russian leader insists on gaining control over the entire Donbas region

Bloomberg reported the information.

According to sources, during the phone call, Trump noted that the final decision on the territories should be made by Kyiv, but Putin’s position remains unchanged. Russia wants full control over Donetsk and Luhansk regions, even though its forces have currently captured only part of these areas.

If Kyiv agrees, Moscow is ready to drop claims to the parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions still under Ukrainian control, effectively freezing the frontline there.

President Zelenskyy has repeatedly rejected any possibility of ceding territory.

Additionally, sources said that in talks with European leaders, Trump expressed willingness to support security guarantees for Ukraine, provided they do not involve NATO. The president suggested that Putin would agree to this.

Trump claims Putin open to new written agreement

Moreover, as Trump emphasized in talks with European leaders after the Alaska summit, the Russian leader is reportedly even willing to provide a written guarantee of no further armed aggression against Ukraine or any EU country, if he is given full control over the territories of Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including areas currently under Ukrainian control.

This information was reported on the evening of August 16 by New York Times correspondent Steven Erlanger in Berlin.

“In return, Mr. Putin offered a cease-fire in the rest of Ukraine at current battle lines and a written promise not to attack Ukraine or any European country again, the senior officials said,” the NYT article states.

In response, European leaders reportedly reminded Trump that Putin “has broken similar promises before.”

Russia has no chance against NATO. But Putin also knows they won’t go to war with him over eastern Ukraine. But at the same time, if he did give up his gains in Ukraine, he wouldn’t last very long.

Trump is trying to give him an ‘out’.

Over what? Ukraine? Seriously?

I should have been clearer.

I have no interest in fighting for Ukraine, but there has never been a shortage of Americans willing to get on a ship or plane and go to another country to do someone else's heavy lifting for them. (It's an IQ test we fail time and time again.)

Its military couldn’t defeat a much smaller country that borders it.

Spin it anyway you like but Russia's land objectives coming in were Donetsk, Lugansk and to land bridge it built from mainland Russia to Crimea.

Russia will end up with all of that.

It's other objective was to demilitarize Ukraine and assure it would end involvement with NATO and don't see anyway Russia isn't getting that in any peace deal.

Giving up even part of Zaporozhye and Kherson is a “ big deal” since the Russian duma voted to make them part of the RF after they voted by referendum to join Russia.

Not really since part of those oblasts are west of the Dnieper river and would have been hard to defend.

Russia's only objective in those oblasts was to build a land bridge from Crimea to mainland Russia in order to protect its naval base there.

Zelensky and his EU handlers will refuse; will insist on keeping areas he could not keep during the war and essentially demanding Russia surrender. It won’t happen.

Zelensky will have to be removed to secure peace.

What the Russians are doing in Ukrain would be like the British attacking New Dehli to reestablish the Raj.

Russians are not a good “road team”. You’d be nuts to try to invade Russia, but they aren’t nearly as good on offense.

‘“He is running out of troops”’

You realize, that that was not ‘my’ quote. It was a quote from POGO163. So I will address your response also to POGO163.

That said.... the damned war has gone on way too long already...over a decade. Too many men (and civilians) dead and dying. No country can survive, much less prosper, under those conditions. Nobody but a demonic fool would choose to continue on with it.

The Russians were not a good road team, but the Germans were not much better. Both had terrible logistics. Russian soldiers said that if they had had Studebaker trucks in 1941, they would have been in Berlin in 1943. Every German infantry company had one horse-drawn wagon and no motor vehicles. They marched into Russia in winter with wagons drawn by a two-horse team.

NYT lies so much ,i’m not buying this .will wait to hear trump.
NYT’s fake starving child tells all one needs to know about them!
.
still, i hope that putin did offer peace for donbas.
PorkRoast is going fast.Donbas capture pace has quickened.
better yet if he offered return some territory around Sumy/Kharkov.(face saving for Z-ski)
if so Z should take it but at least reason for another meeting. Even if they have to fight another 3,6 or 12 months , then Z-ski will have less mouths to feed and less land to protect. Surely a win/win...land swaps sound difficult,

The ZNPP is the largest in Europe and seizing it was one of the first Russian objectives in 2022…along with Chernobyl and the US-built and operated Biolabs in eastern and central Ukraine.

The NPP is now in cold shutdown with an IAEA monitoring team onsite…both Russians and Ukes working there.

The future activity at ZNPP and the biolabs will be among security concerns negotiated.

The UN and the world refused to listen to what the Russians found at the biolabs. The Russian general who led the investigation and amassed evidence was assassinated by Prob Ukrainian (?) intel several months ago

No problem. No need for apology.
