Republicans are leading the charge against alcohol consumption in the US.
Across the US, drinking rates have plunged to their lowest level in 90 years.
Only 54 percent of adults said they had a drink last month, according to Gallup data.
That's the lowest level since the polling group began collecting the figures in 1939.
Only 46 percent of Republican voters reported having any alcohol in all of last year, a one third drop from 2023.
By comparison Democrat drinkers only decline by five percent in the same period.
'Americans' drinking habits are shifting amid the medical world's reappraisal of alcohol's health effects,' Gallup said of the findings.
'After decades of relative steadiness in the proportion of US adults who drink, [we have] documented three consecutive years of decline in the US drinking rate as research supporting the 'no amount of alcohol is safe' message mounts.'

Dad would tell the story of his Catholic buddy who he was in flight training at Pensacola. The buddy made him promise that no matter what happened on Saturday night Dad would see to it that he was present for Mass on Sunday morning. Dad said he would dutifully deposit what was left of his buddy in the back pew for Mass then collect him afterward.
Happy to be doing my part. 8 months now alcohol free. With the way I feel, the money saved and positive relationship trends, I kick myself for not quitting way before this.
“Why drink liquor when you can smoke pot legally?”
Marijuana legalization is hurting alcohol sales. You don’t need to drink as much alcohol when you are vaping THC or smoking marijuana. Some will turn to drugs and rarely drink, to get as high as they need to.
It's not really true. They aren't calling for prohibition (though no doubt the dems will spin it that way, if they think about it). A few of them don't drink (high profile ones) and talk about it. Trump will say he doesn't drink, he never pushes everyone else to stop, for example. Hardly "leading the charge against alcohol consumption"
I read so much about evils of drinking that I decided to give it up. Once I quit reading I wouldn't drink anything stronger than pop. Of course, pop will drink most anything.
I have found ,I can’t shoot straight when I’m drinking. So I quit drinking.

“broader shift in demographic”
Overwhelmingly, Pro-Lifers have babies, Pro-aborts have terminations of pregnancy. The result is a demographic shift. Note that Mexican immigrants are mostly in the Pro-Lifer category.
Pro-lifers don’t drink....as much. Reasons to drink:
1) I need a drink to handle real world frustrations. Pro-lifers need to pray when they face frustrations.
2) It will hurt the baby, so why start? Why make it a lifestyle?
3) .... you get the idea... demograhpics is a bitch.
Experts are at a loss to explain the fall in alcohol consumption among Republicans in particular.
It had a more lasting affect.
Great testimony, congratulations my friend.
Good for you! 🙌
Alcohol has been heavily taxed for decades. Who needs it?
I’m doing my part!
