I weas quite intrigued with Robert Youens trip of the great loop in a flat bottom boat with a tiller steer 60 HP outboard. His trip has inspired me to maybe make the same trip this coming spring however it will not be in a little flat bottom boat. Got my eye on a 33 foot trawler. Take the Boys and grand kids, Just one of the items on my bucket list.

Where’s “The Great Loop”?
Would love to take the wife but she still works and has clients to see but she has blessed me with my bucket list request.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Loop
Never heard of it until just now and apparently I live right on it in Detroit.
My guess a trip by water that loops around the easter half of the US. Pick a point and go down the Mississippi, into the Gulf, hug the coast around Florida, up the Eastern Seaboard, maybe all the way past Maine into Canada, into the Saint Lawrence Seaway, through the Great Lakes, and maybe end in Chicago or find a canal back to the Mississippi…???
What are you talking about?
Can you imagine doing that trip like Robert did in 33 days in a flat bottom. He set a record.
Mostly right. Just go up the Hudson and enter the Great Lakes via canal. It does look like great fun!
I’ve read about it and would do it except for one thing...I don’t have a good boat and don’t have the time. But good luck and keep us posted!
Hell of a trip, yea I gotta do it.
That and walking The Trail are two things I would love to do and probably never will.
Here is my ride... Build for Kiteboarding. gives me a spot to blow up kites if there is no beach. Its been all over the country!! Favorite spot of all time? Marvin Key... 7 miles north west of the main Florida Keys highway. only way out there is by boat!!
Drone shot of Marvin Key!!

Oh, If and when, When I do, it will be a daily FR report, trust me, I will want it recorded.
Right! The Wikipedia article shows a route that cuts out New England and the Maritimes by going up the Hudson River to the Great Lakes. Still a great Bucket List adventure!
Why would anyone want to do that?
Because life was meant to be lived?
200 miles a day for a month would be very challenging.
We were planning to undertake the Great Loop. Definitely was a “bucket list” item.
Did a lot of prep and research.
Then Covid hit. Most everything derailed.
Would still love to do it. But at my age the opportunity may have leaked out of my “bucket”.
