What if the internet as you know it—teeming with human creativity, genuine conversations, and authentic connections—was already gone? Bold as it sounds, the Dead Internet Theory suggests that much of the web has been overtaken by bots, algorithms, and now, generative AI. Imagine scrolling through your favorite platform, only to realize that the content you’re consuming, the comments you’re reading, and even the conversations you’re having might not be from real people at all. As generative AI continues to evolve, this once-fringe theory is gaining unsettling credibility. Could it be that the internet has quietly transformed into a machine-driven echo chamber, leaving human voices drowned out by artificial ones?
In this breakdown, Wes Roth explores how generative AI is reshaping the digital world, from creating eerily human-like content to influencing social media interactions and even redefining creativity itself. You’ll discover how this shift raises urgent questions about authenticity, trust, and the very nature of online engagement. Is the internet becoming a space where human connection is sidelined in favor of automated efficiency? Or is this just the next step in its evolution? By the end, you might find yourself questioning not just what you see online, but who—or what—is behind it.

That has been your constant angle on the situation. I have not been enslaved, and I don't think you have either. People chose of their own free will to follow the destructive course.
“I have not been enslaved, and I don’t think you have either.”
I agree, not yet. But you and I are stronger than most. We see more clearly than most. But there is going to come a time every soon where AI is permeated into everything to point where we will not have any option but to be enslaved by it also. Just yesterday my phone service switched to AI customer service and it is now impossible to go over it’s head to a real person.
All the issues are “canned” issues from a list and there are no “unique” circumstances. I doesn’t understand anything outside that list “I’m sorry, I did not get that, here are your options” and if you insist on anything different it just says “good bye” and hangs up. So basically no customer service outside their preprogrammed parameters which of course are always in their favor because business is NEVER WRONG.
Soon every service everywhere will have this feature and there will be no opting out of it for anyone. That is how we will be enslaved against our will. Some of these services are absolutely necessary for survival in a modern world so we will not be able to prevent it, we will be enslaved indirectly also because of the ignorance of others who helped support and create the trend.
You and I are simply going to disengage from all of that and settle down in a nice place with lots of books and tools. I bet your place out there in AZ is better for that here in GA. So, pick out a spot for me. ;-D
We'll never grow tired of the Apollo argument, even if sometimes I'll require restraints.
You bet, I have already began. I am now living off grid energy independent with a few others in a huge iron fenced fortress. And only 20 miles away we have a second backup bug out property on top of a mountain with plenty of food and water. And now my only digital dependencies are communications.
Other than needing phone for only family communications and two sites, I have shut off all other uses period. No apps, no online accounts, no online shopping, no credit or debit cards, no store rewards cards or apps, Etc. I have become a semi Luddite at 98% no digital in my life.
The only tech I still do is in effort to fight big tech enslavement using opposing tech. fighting fire with fire...
If the SHTF you are absolutely welcome my friend... :)
“But you can hold a human responsible, Responsibility can be ducked and completely negated with machine sources.”
As far as I’m concerned, humans are behind the AI stuff.
If AI becomes a widely perceived threat, people will start cracking down on the people running it.
I don’t know if you remember or not, But I stayed out of that one. That was not me, that was someone else... :)
I hashed that one out in depth and dropped it over 20 years ago... Even though I am tinfoil some topics are best left alone and just stay neutral. lol
Wait... Thinking back I might have played referee to try and defuse the situation. But I am pretty sure I did not take a personal stance either way... :)
I talk to bots when on the phone to some company. Then it hears me getting frustrated with the choices and asks “Do you want to talk to a customer service agent?”....
“Do you want to talk to a customer service agent?”
Well be ready for that to go away. They will soon remove that option and it will be the bot’s way or goodbye. There will be no way to resolve the issue and you will be completely stuck with THEIR terms like it or not. Zero feedback...
