A Los Angeles woman who flaunted luxury goods and wads of cash on social media has been sentenced to federal prison for stealing credit cards and cashing other people’s checks to fund her lavish lifestyle.

On Monday, Mary Ann Magdamit, 31, of Carson, admitted to conspiring to commit bank fraud while working as a U.S. Postal Service worker in Torrance.

From 2022 until July 2025, she stole mail containing checks, debit and credit cards, and personal identifying information, and then activated the stolen cards to make luxury purchases and take international trips to tropical locales.

...

Magdamit remains in federal custody, and has agreed to forfeit a Rolex watch and other luxury goods after pleading guilty to her charges.

She is due in court on Oct. 27, and could face up to 30 years in federal prison.

Wow. So this went on for years. Either this woman is a criminal genius or her supervisors are inept morons.

At a former job there was an engineer who was busted selling company stuff on EBay for a while.

He had his face on the EBay page along with his classic sports cars as well.

She isn’t the only one and I think if they applied a ‘carrot or the maximum stick” approach with her she could turn evidence on what I think are one of many huge fraud rings operating within the postal Service.

Subconsciously some people just want to be caught.

30 years behind bars sounds like a very reasonable punishment to me.

It's the postal service (no reflection on all the honest postal carriers who do a phenomenal job.

That said, Many years ago, the husband of a young couple at our church who was vary popular, worked at the PO. He was also caught stealing money from cards. I thought it was odd when he suddenly quit his job and they moved to another city on very short notice.

Later a friend told me that when he was caught he was told he could either go to jail or quit his job, never work for the PO again, and I THINK move out of town.

I never thought that option of quitting and getting away with it was a good one. He should have gone to jail. That is a very serious breach of trust with the public, and not something a *PROFESSING* Christian should have done.

"AGREED TO?????"

There should have been no choice in the matter.

I’m grateful that the lowering of inhibitions on social media has included many people conveniently confessing to crimes publicly.

… 30 years behind bars …

If she’s convicted she’ll probably be paroled in 18 months or less, I’d bet.

I knew it had to be an inside job! We had multiple checks stolen and cashed after depositing the letters inside the PO. Torrance, CA is where we live.
