Re: "How much are tulips?"

Bitcoin is definitely speculative.

On the other hand - the bull market in tulips did not last for 17 years.

The difference is bitcoin has intrinsic value for money laundering and there are lots of criminals in the world.

This reminds of the time I bought 5 Bitcoins for $45.
I thought I got a great deal. Turns out it was a scam.

I actually do have 4.5 bitcoins. Long story short, I had to buy radio tubes for an amplifier that used old Soviet tubes. We couldn’t get a credit card to work.

So I bought $1000 worth of. It on (the minimum to porn an account), which was 7 bitcoin or something. Paid the guy. Have 4.5 left.

Forgot about it until recently. Still there! Slight change in value, lol.

Laughing at the typo in my post. Didn’t have on my glasses!

“Open”

I’m doing just fine, so I view this as just another investment . I’ve moved the coins to redundant hard media and will have a taxable estate.

Something to give the kids outside of gift tax so they can buy a house or flee the country with if Kamala 2.0 becomes president.

between the years 2008 2009, the price of bitcoin fluctuated between eight and nine cents. True story. At that time, if you had a decent computer, you could’ve easily mined thousands of them.

“ didn’t know electrons have intrinsic value!”

An atom walks into a bar. “Bartender! I’ve lost an electron!”

“Are you sure?”, asked the bartender.

“Yes”, said the atom. “I’m positive!”

Ethereum is selling at all-time highs as well - uncertainty in the stock market is driving a lot of investors into crypto-currencies. With Trump’s endorsement of digital currencies, the trend will continue to be positive.

Re: "$12.2 million"

Anyone know how the IRS treats the 20% long term capital gains tax if you purchase something with un-converted Bitcoins?

Assume I purchased 100 Bitcoins at $1 per coin 15 years ago.

Assume I now purchase a $12.2 million home with 100 Bitcoins.

After the transaction, would I owe the IRS 20 Bitcoins (or $2.44 million) in long term capital gains tax?

no clue...

but... If I was disciplined enough to not squander it in 15 years, and the full 12M was sitting there, i’d have no problem giving the fed their cut... I don’t think I could spend the 8 or 9M left before im dead. I never had expensive tastes... ...except power boats. I like power boats. ...and a 1500 sqft house on the water is all I’d need!
