United States Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that the US is working on setting up a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, he told Fox News that it would not be "productive" to schedule the meeting before Putin meets with US President Donald Trump on August 15. Vance said he spoke to the Ukrainian government earlier today but that Trump will have to "force President Putin and President Zelensky to sit down, to figure out their differences."

Vance: “If you take where the current line of contact between Russia and Ukraine is, we’re going to try to find some negotiated settlement that the Ukrainians and the Russians can live with, where they can live in relative peace, where the killing stops. It’s not going to make anybody super happy.”
Here’s my prediction. Putin pays Zelinsky an “Occupation Tax”, on a quarterly basis to offer reconstruction compensation in the rest of Ukrainian areas besides Crimea. Of course Zelisky will just steal the monies. This condition will lift energy sanctions in order to “pay the guy”.
Vance:
“If you take where the current line of contact between Russia and Ukraine is, we’re going to try to find some negotiated settlement that the Ukrainians and the Russians can live with, where they can live in relative peace, where the killing stops. It’s not going to make anybody super happy.”
“Both the Russians and the Ukrainians, probably at the end of the day, are going to be unhappy with it. But I don’t think you can actually sit down and have this negotiation absent the leadership of Donald J. Trump.”
Translation: Zelensky is expected to be there to sign any agreement to end the war Trump and Putin agree to.
“BRUSSELS (Reuters) -European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Sunday that any deal between Washington and Moscow to end the war in Ukraine must include Ukraine and the EU, adding that she will convene a meeting of European foreign ministers on Monday to discuss next steps.”
EU/Ukraine will keep the war going.
Europe is being invaded by Muslims, Ukraine by Russians. I would rather be taken over by Russians.
Your fellow Ivans are already crying about VP Vance’s statements. Especially about the current line of contact. Lol!
AI:
How much Russian oil do European countries currently buy?
The EU is spending more money on Russian fossil fuels than on financial aid to Ukraine, a report marking the third anniversary of the invasion has found.
EU member states bought €21.9bn (£18.1bn) of Russian oil and gas in the third year of the war
The amount is one-sixth greater than the €18.7bn the EU allocated to Ukraine in financial aid in 2024
Any funds to repair breakage will be Russian for the new Russian territories (funded by Europe from this above revenue flow), and Europe will undoubtedly wind up paying for breakage in the western areas of Ukraine.
As for ongoing Ukraine funding, one is inclined to remind about the pipeline transit fees for flow from GAZPROM to Europe through Ukraine pipelines, but per the above reality of current Europe GAZPROM buys . . . most of current Europe gas buys from Russia is coming from record-setting 2024 Russian LNG flows to Europe ports. If it’s arriving via LNG, there would be lower transit fees through Ukraine.
You can’t fool us. You hate Trump and Vance. You Ukies hate everyone in favor of peace negotiations. Oh... never mind. Why am I trying to debate a bot?
.
"According to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Minsk agreement served to buy time to rearm Ukraine. “The 2014 Minsk agreement was an attempt to give Ukraine time,” Merkel told the weekly Die Zeit. “It also used this time to become stronger, as you can see today.”
Let’s see how this works out.
Zelensky is already trying to blow up Trump and Putin meeting,
just like he tried to blow up, but failed when he met wit with Trump at the White
House.
Trump knows better than to invite Zelensky to the first meeting.
The Washington proposal to Moscow talked about recognition of defacto realities on the ground.
Trump is talking about land swap now, and that works out like this.
Crimea is Russian. Period. That leaves 4 oblasts that had Russia referenda. The issue is there are 4. The two northernmost are 100% occupied with some spillover east into oblasts that were not part of the referenda.
Russia will not get the spillover land. The two oblasts southward are only partially in Russian troop hands. But those oblasts were part of the referenda. The line of contact says Russia does NOT get all of those two oblasts.
That becomes the land swap. Russia gets the land conquered, in the referenda but not the land unconquered, even though within the referenda. That is the swap. Two oblasts they declare part of Russia will only partially be that.
A ceasefire can then unfold with only one condition. No insertion of European troops. There has never been a presumption of US troops so those need not be discussed. But insertion of European troops ends the ceasefire with them becoming top priority targets.
This should actually not be considered a Ukraine concession. The Euros have said in all talk of peacekeepers that they would only send troops in if there was already a ceasefire in place that explicitly authorizes them. They will take no risks with their troops. So they won’t be going in, and need not. As long as they do not, the ceasefire is in place and the Russian advance stops.
Nope. The Russians were not there.
You and whoever you're posting propaganda for will lose too much money if the war ends and, especially, if we end up with better relations with Russia.
I think the agreement will need to go further than that -- no European or US weapons flowing to Ukraine.
Ukraine must, as its constitution mandates, remain a neutral country toward Russia.
You were supposed to conquer Kyiv in 3 days but look at you now.
I hope someone has a new approach simmering. There is a lot riding on these meetings!
May Ukraine live in peace soon.
