Whatever lines are set, the hatred between Russia and the West is such that it’s going to require a neutral buffer zone with a neutral police force to monitor and maintain order. I don’t know how the original lines were drawn through an ethnic region but it has caused untold tensions among the local inhabitants. Just the hard policed border where relatives and friends are no longer able to traverse is tragic.
