Back in ‘68, when we living in an apt complex overlooking the Pacific ocean, I remember saving a litter of pink kittens. After a dramatic afternoon bathing them until the blood from the flea bites finally washed away, leaving beautiful white kittens, we then spent some days finding homes for totally wild, and totally wonderful, white kittens. It’s a good memory and our own five cats didn’t get infected with fleas.
I remember a rich hero friend in New Jersey who found a cat with distemper. She couldn’t bring it into her home with her own cat, so she rented the apartment next to her own and cared for it there.
Clapping for every hero out there who saves an animal’s life.
Made my day. You just don’t see this kind of stuff anymore in the news.
You are so right, but this old women am glad that we women are genetically wired that way - to rescue and protect the young and helpless.
My wife and I have rescued a few cats over the years, none yet from a freeway median, but I couldn’t swear we wouldn’t at least try. Hope the mom and kids didn’t get too many fleas from the kitten.

Many years ago a friend from out of state was visiting. We decided to go somewhere, can’t remember now it was so long ago. I was driving and both of us noticed a woman in a station wagon in the next lane to us, tossing kittens out of her car in traffic. Other people saw the same thing, and we all stopped our cars to try to rescue whatever kitten or kittens we could. Other people got to them before us, but we got her license plate number, car model and color, and drove to the closest NY State Trooper barracks and reported her. They took our statements. The trooper who took our report eventually called me to say they had gone to her house, and of course she denied it. However, he told me that we weren’t the only ones who had reported her. She was cited, but I have no idea how it ended up.
I'm surprised a Haitian hadn't gotten to it first. Glad the kitty is okay.

Her children will never forget “seeing Mommy save that black kitten on the freeway.” The tale will be told and retold several different ways over the next generation or two.
Hope she got herself a tetanus shot soon after.
We have two cats and a small dog.
But, a couple of weeks ago a 3 month old kitten was crying her head off in the neighbor’s driveway. My wife outside in our adjacent driveway, and called to the kitty.
The kitty ran right to her. She was skin and bones and smelly, but otherwise okay, and NOT feral. She was either lost or more likely abandoned. Super affectionate. We checked for a chip . . . none. She play fights and snuggles with our two cats, and plays with the dog.
Cats and kittens are good at find people to better their lives when necessary.
We have three cats and a small dog.
