I’m lucky. I don’t have one best friend, I have two. They were my college roommates at UF. We still have a perpetual 3 way text chat we keep going and once or twice a month we’ll do a 3 way call. And we went to college over 30 years ago.
Very true. We live in a cold sometimes brutal society.
Show of hands. How many are lucky enough to be surrounded by an adoring family when they kick the bucket? When my aunt died of cancer a couple years ago and she was surrounded by all of us. But she was so doped up on morphine she didn’t have a clue what was going on.
The best thing...(morbid) Keep your soul good with God and make peace that eventually you will die, and most likely, you will die alone. Solitude is a comfort.

That’s all you need. As I’ve heard said, a friend is a person who will help you bury a body, and not ask questions. ;)
I love solitude. Quiet reflection on my life, watching my garden, reading, caring for my animals... I teach music to a dozen students. I enjoy nights at the pub. But the quiet and peace of solitude is hard to beat. if a person can’t enjoy life alone, they can’t enjoy it with other people.
I am recently widowed, my wonderful wife passing of cancer at 55. Almost everyone had vanished before the flowers had even died. My kids live 1500 miles away, I have one sibling who is 90 minutes away that has a full plate of his own, and mother is going on 80 and decrepitude is catching up fast.
The future is bleak. All there is left close to me is the church, and generational turnover there is making it an increasing lonely place too.
I have a neighbor who did marry and have three kids. She’s 76. Husbands died and two out of three kids died. The surviving kid lives in California and has little to do with her. Not everything in life is rosey. Some are alone through no fault of their own. It’s sad.
I’m commenting on judgements.
Its funny you mention that. We’ve jokingly said the exact same thing. What’s the ultimate test of whether you have a real true close friend or not? If you have one, you can call him and he’ll come help you bury the body no questions asked.
I would for my buddies. I’d figure of whomever they killed that he must’ve had it coming.
It does when you apply an observation about one person’s life to many. And yea, either way, still judegey. Find a hobby instead.
I recently moved back to the satanic state of Oregon to help my mother in her elderly years. Chances are, she will die alone even though I am near by. We both watched her sister die of aggressive cancer. Mum said to me she doesn’t want to bring any of us in the family in to that. Some of us, me included, want to die alone. Meet that fate in quiet dignity between ourself and God.
ROFL
Welcome to the REAL world.
Everyone tried to tell you, but you liberals would not listen.
The ONLY people who will take care of you when you are old.. are the children you raised. And if you “choose” not to have children.. well.. you’re out of luck!
oh she did MANY times, and aborted them all no doubt!
Sorry to hear that. You know how it is first hand.
If one is still working, the employer will show up wondering what’s up, and with your medical and attorney contact information on file.
Amen Ink!
As long as a person can avoid going out helpless and abused in a nursing home.

That was my thought.
Even miscarriages can be caused by long time birth control usage
