Could be the child is on the autistic spectrum, I’ve seen that in my own family.

Sounds like she is a frequent flier and maybe harsh language has calmed her down before...we’ll let the pearl clutchers fantasize about how the world should work before they know the history and facts of the situation.

I have another question. Why does a ten year old have a phone?

You’re kidding, right? Three year olds have phones. It’s the modern version of planting your kid in front of the tv so you can get some work done. Much more dangerous, though, because although tv programs and advertisers intended to influence kids to think a certain way, social media is designed to do that to a much higher degree, plus actually addict them to their platforms. It becomes an actual addiction, and going away the phone or computer causes withdrawal symptoms. It has a billable ICD-10 code!

Taking away, not going away.

The last thing a child on the spectrum needs is a tiny computer to keep their brain in overdrive. You basically train them to be addicted to it just to keep them quiet and to avoid socialization. There is a reason so many kids are “on the spectrum” now. My generation had to learn to exist in society so we could not indulge it.
I was diagnosed in 2005.

I remember when Blackberries were referred to as “Crackberries”.

The real question is, did she then shut the F up?

I live in a 2025 version of 1960’s Mayberry. Kids still ride their bikes here, and walk to get ice cream or go to the one screen movie theater or to the library. It’s a cute, decent little town where it has slow walked “progress”.

That being said, you’re probably right. My 4 year old grandson (in California) has an iPad to amuse him when on an airplane or a long car ride. Lord, I hope they don’t give him a phone when he’s 10. Kids don’t understand how many predators are out there. Parents need to keep a watchful eye on their children when these devices are given at a young age.

“Okay FReepers I’m on the firemans side” ...”

I take no side. Don’t have all the facts. But the foul-mouthed fire chief should tone it down.

This many resources for a 10 year-old that is mad because someone took her cell phone? I’d have probably done the same thing as the fire chief. Who the hell are the parents? This is just absolutely insane. There is something else going on here with this kid. She needs treatment of some kind.

Yeah, I’m on the fireman’s side.

The girl is so regularly out of control the only solution the family can think of is to call the police and firemen to deal with her. The family, which can't control the child, blames the workers for yelling at her.

This is a messed up family. Anyone who blames the fireman for anything needs to have their head examined.

Wonder why the child acts this way? I’d start here:

“The child’s grandmother, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was not there when the incident took place, but that she was ‘devastated’ by how the chief handled her granddaughter.”

No wonder we have so many serious social problems.

True, but these days many 10 year olds are known to cuss with the rest of them.

Every Week? Every Week?

There is a certain segment of society who use the fire department ambulance as their personal taxi.

It can be frustrating to go pick up the same patients for the same thing week after week, especially if it’s not even appropriate. An emotional outburst isn’t typically something for an emergency room, unless you need to sedate someone to prevent him from harming himself or others.

Still, it’s simply inexcusable to lose your cool like that. Always assume these days that someone is filming you — someone usually is.

And on top of that, I don’t understand why a fire chief would show up on such a scene. It’s not a house fire requiring management of a three-alarm response.

Probably not. That’s not a very effective way to handle it. He should have walked away. In fact, he likely didn’t need to be there in the first place.

I’m with you — on the fireman’s side. The way I’m reading it:

Little brat had a hissy fit because her phone was taken from her. The tantrum was so extreme they had to call 911. And apparently it wasn’t the first time ‘cause the fireman implied there’s a history with her.

Parent’s fault. They should’ve started using the n-word (”no”) when she was two, and they wouldn’t be ruled by this little terrorist now.

“I suspect the child is autistic”

I’m going with “spoiled”. (How many “autistic” kids are actually just brats?)
