Many have criticized the Superman character for being "over-powered", making it difficult to write adversaries or crises that would be challenging for him. I thought "Superman: The Animated Series" did well with that by toning him down a bit.

This latest movie's problem, to me, is that Lex Luthor's the over-powered one. Multi-billionaire, apparently owns Congressmen, so hyper-intelligent he creates "pocket dimensions" through manipulating physics in ways no one else can conceive.

A guy like that wouldn't waste his time or get his panties in a twist over a comparatively idiotic alien who possesses fantastic abilities. He'd have Kal-El directly working for him one way or another - Super Pool Boy.

I like how the Bee got John Henry Irons mentioned. In the comics he was a guy who built an Iron Man-style suit to become the hero "Steel". There was even a very bad movie about him starring a young Shaquille O'Neal.
