So now I know the real reason UP shut down the shop in Palestine, TX! They fought and fought to get out of the 1870 era contact. The courts should never let it happen. A contract is a contract. And said document was supposed to be in perpetuity. And stated the owning railroad shall employ a certain % of total workfoce in the city of Palestine. If merged, that would drastically increase the personnel in this small town. Which would have irked leadership dramatically. I despise UP.
