This merger would definitely be a good thing for most railroad customers. It’s the reason why the industry has been consolidating for most of its history.

I think the guy who says the railroad industry has been losing business to trucks is either lying or ignorant. The biggest factor in the decline of rail carload numbers in recent years has been the steep decline in coal shipments — which has nothing to do with competition from the trucking industry.
