A couple abandoned their 10-year-old son at Barcelona Airport to catch their flight after realising his passport had expired, a worker at the terminal has said.
The parents allegedly ditched their kid at Barcelona’s El Prat international airport on Wednesday so they could board the plane on time.
However the boy was discovered alone as he waited for a relative to pick him up and the police were called, the air traffic coordinator, called Lilian, claimed.
The airport staff member posted a video, which has wracked up over 300,000 views, telling the story and condemning the parents.
The child had been barred from flying because his passport had expired and did not have a visa.
So the couple were said to have arranged for a family member to pick him up as they went on their way to the plane.
However when airport staff then found the kid on his own the police were informed of what had allegedly happened.
‘He told them that his parents were on the plane on their way to their home country, going on vacation’, said the air traffic controller, whose claims have not been verified.
The plane, which at this point was moments from take off, then had to return to the stand, where it was met by police.
The pilot then allegedly asked passengers ‘if someone had left a child in the terminal and no one had answered.’
The couple were eventually found and hauled to the airport’s police station where their son was. It is unclear if they were arrested.
The TikToker said: ‘I’m an air traffic controller, and as a controller, I’ve seen a lot of things, but this has been completely surreal’, the TikToker went on to say.
Yes, the parents should have gotten a new passport. But the passport was valid when he entered Spain. Wouldn't the better part of valor in this case have been to let the boy go with his parents. As long as they are convinced it was the boy in the passport, why is it helpful to keep him in Spain. they don't want to make him a ward of the state. Just send him on his way.

Passports used to be a courtesy to simplify international travel. Now they’re not only mandatory*, but, 1 second after their expiry moment, they are not longer recognized as valid identification or anything.
*Except for illegal immigrants

If I were to abandon my kid, I would have went to the cab stand and paid his way to the relative.
OTOH any of my kids would have gamed this like a champ. It would have cost me at least a $100 at the airport and a new gaming system at home but they would have handled it.
No mention of names, destination, country of origin. Any idea why?
I flew across country when I was in first grade. But I suppose every child is not up to it, maybe some that are teenagers aren’t.
So, the parents were not native Spaniards. They were going to their home country on a visit and left the kid behind at the airport in order to make their flight. No names given. I’m gonna say Muslim.

My dad got me up in a plane when I was in grade school. We flew from Chicago to Milwaukee, where he had business, and flew back the same day. He wanted me to love flying like he did. I do, been to many countries including Turkey and Singapore.
Have flown with my kids too, from the time they were about 6 years old. Would I ditch one in an airport?? Absolutely not. Those rotten parents should be investigated for other cruelty.

So, they went on vacation to their home country???
I bet you they have claimed asylum in their new country, possibly saying they are in fear of being killed if they go back to their home country yet they continually go back for vacations and whatnot.
That was a very long time ago before jets. Probably a DC-3.

At least they didn’t take him into the bathroom and drown him, as that woman did to her dog at Orlando airport last spring.
