‘Monty Python’ star Michael Palin, 82, details his will plans after losing wife: ‘I do think about death’

Sir Michael Palin has plans in place for his inevitable death.

The 82-year-old star of the British comedy troupe Monty Python revealed that he’s organized his will and instructed his loved ones on what to do when he dies following his wife’s passing in 2023.

Speaking on the podcast “On the Marie Curie Couch,” Palin got real about his end-of-life arrangements, noting that losing his significant other has helped his family be more open about the end.

“I do think about death, and the family are rather wonderful about it: ‘Have you made a will? Can I be in your will?’” the English comedian shared on Wednesday’s episode of the podcast “On the Marie Curie Couch.”

“I’ve made my will and all that. My family, my children, know where to find what they need to find should I die,” he added.

The actor and writer lost his wife, Helen Gibbins, in 2023 to chronic kidney disease. Palin has also gone through his own health battle.

In 2019, he underwent heart surgery to repair a mitral valve and shared how the experience made him more aware of his body.

“However fit you are, anything might happen,” Palin explained on the podcast. “But I don’t dwell on mortality. I dwell on life.”...

The pair wed in 1966 and were married for 57 years when she passed away two years ago.

Palin admitted, “There was a time when I didn’t think it was going to get better. I thought, gosh, it’s just going to be poignant days. I’m going to break into tears every now and then.”

However, he shared, “It does get better and it does adjust. And after two years now I feel I could think of Helen. I’m surrounded by her anyway. I’ve got photos.

"Hello, Mrs Teal!......Now this is for £15 and it's to stop us revealing the name of your lover in Bolton......So Mrs Teal...if you send us £15 by return post, please, and your husband Trevor, and your lovely children, Diane, Janice and Juliet need never know the name of your lover in Bolton."

-Not only a great comedian. He also gave a great dramatic performance in American Friends.-

Not only a great comedian and dramatic performer, but he is also a great author of his globe-trotting travel logs. They are very good:

“Full Circle” circumnavigation of the pacific rim

“Around the World in 80 Days”

“Pole to Pole”

“Sahara”

“Himalaya”

“New Europe”

He also wrote a history naval mystery.

“Erebus: One Ship, Two Epic Voyages”

“I do think about death, and the family are rather wonderful about it: ‘Have you made a will? Can I be in your will?’”

Am I the only one who thinks saying this to someone is rather presumptuous? I might write someone out of my will just for asking this of me.

Oh yes😀 The differences between the American and British vocabulary. They still represent pitfalls for non-native speakers of English.

But I thought that „loo“ is more upper-class BE. Other Britons tend to say „toilet“ or „bog“.

Death is not inevitable.

The mortality rate of the human race is 100%. No one gets out alive.

Yes, I agree. My son knows we have a Will & trust...but not who/what is in it. And he will not know till we are gone...

@About 10 years ago sent a letter out to grandkids and neices with bunch of financial resources info for them as they were all working and facing 401k, etc decisions...it really was a ruse to find out if any were interested enough in financial stuff to be an executor ...none were...so we found an attorney we trust.

My wife and I really have enjoyed Monty Python over the years.

Such talent, humor, and political incorrectness!

Wow! I haven’t heard The Goodies since being a kid.

Their theme song is still in my head. Just silly stuff.
