POTUS was not seen checking his opinions, nor Ours, among MAGA who appreciated his opinions and statements, because he was on the same long time page as we.
Was POTUS unaware, or raincoating those opinions?
The contrast has been striking to see Kash made quiet, and only since Pam stumbled, is he peeping a bit more.
POTUS, otoh, was seen vigorously defending Pam, who has never “read a room” with any charisma in her entire professional life. Imo.
You put it well with the history of “raincoating”.
The term lends to my opinion, for closing down DC FBI & possibly the Big DC Justice Complex.
It’s as watching Bondi and Patel being somewhat “raincoated” by POTUS seemingly detached from both.
Supposedly, POTUS will not be firing Anyone in his administration, who would then be free to go out and cause him more problems, in the Party, etc., and would profit for doing so.
Why not just do a raincoat shuffle? Just as he did with the goofy replacement of Stefanik, making the stupid guy in his cabinet the US Ambassador.
Looks like rewarding the incompetent or careless, but it’s a really a measure of least resistance— self-preservation for keeping the peace, internally, on the hill, etc.

I agree the contrast with Kash can seem disconcerting.
My take on it is that if you are doing a true investigation with legal requirements in place for actual prosecution, then you have to be very careful with what is and isn’t said to prevent a potential for pretrial publicity that can taint the jury pool.
Excessive pretrial publicity has been found to violate the 6th amendment in the past. Irvin v Dowd (1961), Rideau v Louisiana (1963), and Sheppard v Maxwell (1966) all resulted in the SC overturning convictions.

I think that was his honest-to-goodness present at that time. The Dems must have watched the movie “Dave” 1000 times and loved the premise. They put up addlepated figureheads all over the place and had their supposed “underlings” running the show in the background. After hearing a DC pharmacist state that it was mind-blowing how many dementia drugs were delivered to the Capitol, it makes makes you wonder how many Congresscritters are even running their districts.
