Source: Christian Wilkins' Kiss Made Raiders Player Uncomfortable

Christian Wilkins, who was released by the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, kissed a fellow player on the head and the teammate took offense to it, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The incident was not the sole reason Wilkins was cut, sources said. Wilkins has been recovering from a Jones fracture, which he suffered in his left foot last October.

Because of how Wilkins has treated the rehab from his injury, the Raiders voided the remaining $35.2 million of guaranteed money left on his contract June 4, sources said. He was released with the designation of terminated vested veteran, sources told Schefter. Wilkins asked the NFL Players Association to file a grievance on his behalf, and the union did so Thursday.

Last week's incident happened inside a team meeting room. One source told ESPN that the interaction was "playful," but the teammate didn't see it that way. It's not known what the fellow player did following the incident.

A complaint was filed to the Raiders' human resources department, which investigated the incident, a source told Schefter.

The Raiders, through a team spokesperson, declined to comment.

Last offseason, Wilkins signed a four-year, $110 million deal, including $84.75 million guaranteed, with Las Vegas. He had spent the previous five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, with whom he posted a career-best nine sacks in 2023.

He collected 17 tackles, 2 sacks and 6 quarterback hits in just five games in 2024 before undergoing season-ending surgery for the Jones fracture.

ESPN's Ryan McFadden contributed to this report.

A kiss on the HEAD?

As long as it was the head attached to the neck, I find if far less creepy than the NFL celebrating the perversity of LGBTQ+!

Might have been a sarcastic kinda kiss....maybe player was urging that kisser player try harder....and got a sarcastic kiss, as in “don’t tell me what to do”

Maybe Carroll is turning the losing Raider culture around.

A warning wouldn’t suffice?

I’m thinking this “kiss” was the culmination of a bunch of acts and behavior which were causing discontent with the players.

Wilkins has been recovering from a Jones fracture

It is a bit of a shame that you manage to get something named after you, but the name is so common, that no one knows it was you.

Here's to Sir Robert Jones. Who himself had suffered a Jone's fracture.

LOL. The team was desperate to get out of his contract and he obliged. NFL is a highly paid slave trade.

Pfffft. Everybody’s offended by something. It matters to me if it is my wife I’m offending - or my boss.

Pfffft. Whenever someone is offended, I tell them it’s on them to “grow up”.

Well, he had a contract with $82.75 million in guaranteed money and they are trying to cancel $36 million. I could live the rest of my life and my child could live the rest of his life on $46 million. For his sake, I hope he did not blow it.
