Trump gives Russia less than two weeks to reach peace deal with Ukraine

President Donald Trump on Monday reduced to less than two weeks his deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to either reach a peace deal with Ukraine or face massive "secondary tariffs" on Moscow's trade partners.

Trump previously gave Putin a 50-day deadline, which was set to expire in early September.

But he signaled Monday that things were taking too long, saying "I'm going to make a new deadline of about ...10 or 12 days from today."

"I'm disappointed in President Putin," Trump said in Scotland alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

"Russia and Ukraine — I would have said five times we had a deal," Trump said. "I spoke to President Putin a lot. Got along with him very well."

"Then President Putin launches rockets into a city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people — in a nursing home, or wherever — and there are bodies lying all over the street," he said.

"There's no reason they're waiting," Trump said. "I want to be generous, but we just don't see any progress being made."

He later said that he likely will formally announce the revision in the deadline "tonight or tomorrow," adding that the U.S. would impose sanctions along with the secondary tariffs.

"But there's no reason to wait. If you know what the answer is going to be, why wait?" Trump said.

Trump is pivoting to the next issue he cut the deal with the EU on trade.

Lindsey Graham very excited about all this he suggests Russia will get the “Iran Treatment”.

The ‘secondary sanctions’ talk-threat plain enough.

We shall see. Maybe Netanyahu has other plans for Mr. Trump I feel regime change in Iran is very important.

Punishing countries like India for not making economic sacrifices on behalf of Ukraine is absurd. Why should India have to buy more expensive oil or be slapped with higher tariffs because they, while disliking Putin’s war, recognize that it really isn’t any of their concern? When is the last time Ukraine made any economic sacrifice to help India in its struggle against Islamist partisans in Kashmere?

I guess the long range weapons have arrived in Ukraine.

And…the Epstein files are going to be released. But…look over there—a squirrel!

I guess the “Aliens from space” trope isn’t going to happen until later this year.

--- " 'President Trump wasn’t joking about his Easter deadline to Putin.' - clownusmaximus"

But he'll tell others to "tell Putin" as among his go-to strategies for discussion and debate.

To that end and for clownusmaximus and his loyalists, here is the contact info they seem so unable or unwilling to find:

"You can contact the Presidential Executive Office’s Information Office. Calls are taken 24 hours a day."

Information phones of the Presidential Executive Office

Punctuation is your friend here.

That's a much sensible approach than slapping huge economic penalties on neutral nations for just rationally pursuing their financial self-interest.

China isn’t, but India, Brazil, and most of the other countries that will be targeted are.

How?

I think highly of Narendra Modi and the BJP, he's doing a much better job in combating the influence of Islamists in Kashmir and elsewhere in India than any of his left-wing predecessors. Faulting him for not giving a damn about Ukraine is absurd.

What weapons are those?

I must have missed the news.

US should ramp up oil production, bring down the price of oil and make putin unbable to finance war

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Back in the 1970s, when the Arabs were threatening to embargo oil from countries supporting Israel, Jimmy Carter went to the Texas oil companies and asked them how much of an impact this embargo would have.

The reply was none at all. If the Texas Railroad Commission will loosen regulations (oddly, oil is managed in Texas by an agency named Railroad Commission of Texas) we can ramp up production and replace anything the Arabs were supplying.

So Carter ignored the Arab threat and the Railroad Commission gave the oil companies whatever they wanted and . . . and . . . oil production did not rise. The absence of oil, for those old enough to remember, generated long lines at gasoline stations and imposing of license plate odd/even restrictions for rationing. You could spend an hour in line waiting. It turned out Geology was more powerful than oil companies and the Texas Railroad Commission.

Point being, that is what happens in oil scarcity.

For India and China, enormous oil importers, they have to have Russian oil. Have To Have. There is nowhere else to get it. Every other producer already has customers. This is what scarcity looks like.

And so, presuming the US can flip a switch and increase oil production and control the price of oil . . . this presumption is not new. The Permian shale companies are all on the same page right now about the emptying of the primary rock. Shale has been draining for 15 years now. Why would you think a wave of the hand can increase production?

Pro-Russian posters said that they merely wanted U.S. taxpayers to quit subsidizing Ukraine.

Trump gets the EU to pay for the weapons.

Pro-Russian posters still complain.
