My parents had one of his albums. My brother and I found it when we were young teenagers many years after it had been out and were delighted with it.
Turns out a lot of our friends’ parents had it too.
My mom came upon some of us playing and laughing to “National Brotherhood Week,” “Pollution” and those songs one day after school and was OK with it but cautioned us not to repeat those lyrics in school or while out and about.

It seems a little odd to have laughed at that, when we were kneeling under our little desks during bombing drills...
But humans are resilient.
I played “That was the Year that Was” relentlessly. In third grade, my friend Larry and I would sing songs off the album to our teacher.
First we got the bomb and that was good,
‘Cause we love peace and motherhood.
Then Russia got the bomb, but that’s O.K.,
‘Cause the balance of power’s maintained that way!
