Kevin O’Leary on Colbert’s Trump attack: ‘Moron’
The Hill ^ | 7/23/25 | Ashleigh Fields

“Shark Tank” investor Kevin O’Leary on Tuesday defended President Trump against Stephen Colbert’s criticism following CBS’s announcement that it would end “The Late Show” next year.

“Only a moron would tell the president to F off before he gets his check,” O’Leary said during an appearance on CNN’s “NewsNight with Abby Phillip.”

Colbert responded to Trump’s celebration of his show’s end on Monday’s episode, after the president said he was glad the comedian was fired and that he has no talent.

“How dare you, sir,” he said. “Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism: ‘Go f‑‑‑ yourself.’”

Other late night show hosts have rallied around Colbert as a champion of political commentary mused with punchlines and witty comebacks. However, O’Leary echoed Trump’s deteriorating outlook on “The Late Show” and its ability to resonate with viewers.

The businessman said CBS has lost “$46.2 million” on the more than 30-year-old franchise, calling it “old” and “dead.”

A FACT that Tony Dikopoul reiterated on CBS Mornings for blacks, mush to the chagrin of Gayle King, Nate and the haitian creep.

I didn’t think it was possible for the District of Corruption born Coldbeer to make a bigger fool out of himself than he already had. Somehow, he’s pulling it off.

The show stopped being watchable ten years ago. Every joke was about Trump and Sanders.

It might have been sort of ok had there been jokes, but really it was just slagging of Trump with little in the way of reasoning/back up.

Colbert:"“Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism: ‘Go f‑‑‑ yourself.’”

If you think that's witty, perhaps that's why you have no audience and why you got dumped.

I think the network should cut its losses between now and Colbert's end date in May, and stop the expensive pproduction values. They could provide him with a costume horse and a skeleton robot like they did with Craig Ferguson's much more excellent show with a skeleton budget.

If Ferguson had that same time slot he would rule.

There are amateur YouTube podcasts that get more viewers than Colbert. And nobody loses money on those.

Craig’s show was certainly cheaper, and even more certainly much funnier and just plain better overall, than Colbert’s ever was.

I don’t know why Geoff worked, but it did. I find myself laughing easy more than I thought I would.

But also being Craig Kilborne for the daily show. I miss my moments of Zen.

If Ferguson had that same time slot he would rule.

He had been promised it by Letterman when he came on originally, then was sandbagged when it was given to James Cordon. Compared to the costume horse and skeleton robot, Cordon got a huge budget —and he has an ego to match. Never could stand him. What a disappointment.

Craig was socially lefty in his way, living on the left coast, but he was also a new American citizen and appreciated many things about our history and mentioned them on his show. The year after he became a citizen, he was the featured comedian at the White House Correspondents Dinner (Dubya was still President). He got the Join or Die snake cartoon designed by Ben Franklin tattooed on his forearm to celebrate his citizenship.

He is a very intelligent man, but not overeducated, so he remained relateable. I still watch some of his great Late Late shows on YouTube.

Ferguson was much more humorous.
Too bad about the bad time slot the network gave him.

I didn’t even know he had a show until he was long off the air. I’ve watched his stuff on YouTube...he was the best of the new breed....by miles. Stopped watching late-night after Conan, while not as bad as the other morons, turned political.

He is as far left as Colbert but didn’t let that keep him from being funny.

He was LGBT tolerant, but not promotional or ardent about it. Other than that, he made fun of woke things a lot, like people eating kale. He was impressed by Sarah Palin until apparently someone at the network told him to stop that.
