Re: Piano Man

Spent some time in the Navy in the 70’s with a shipmate named Davy - needless to say, he hated that song

Sounds like they like Frijid Pink, Vanilla Fudge - with an organ.

I recently listened to this album and I thought it was pretty good.

Would be cool to hear Billy Joel do some of his solo greatest hits in this style with just keyboards through a Marshall stack and drums. Just blown away this music is still rocking with no bass player out guitars.

This isn't far removed from what some bands sounded like in the late 60s or early 70s. I just listened to Deep Ourple's Book of Talesyn and the Atila stuff I'd kind of similar. Heck any Deep Purple from the first 2 albums are kind of like this. I love it!

This is better than what I was expecting; it’s more difficult for a keyboard to ‘carry’ a hard rock song than for a guitar, and I have to respect the effort. By contrast, as an exception, Keith Emerson had the rare talent to be able to somewhat pull it off on some of ELP’s borderline hard stuff, though he did have plenty of assistance from Greg Lake.

I remember Billy playing SNL on his high school’s class reunion night and during the show telling his entire class to shove it, right on live TV.
