George Kooymans, guitarist and co-founder of the Dutch rockers Golden Earring, has died. He was 77.

Kooymans’ family confirmed his death to the Dutch outlet AD, saying the musician died from the effects of ALS, which he was diagnosed with in 2020. “We say goodbye to a great musician and composer whose work reached far beyond Golden Earring. George was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, but above all, a friend,” the family said.

One of the most underated bands of the 70's. Two hit wonder, "Radar Love" and "Twilight Zone"

Well there is a saying, that famous entertainment actors and musicians die in 3's.

Malcom Jamal Warner, Ozzy Osbourne, and George Kooymans.

RIP George.

Live performance, ‘73. Check out his leap at 4:22. Gets some air! Always liked this drummer, good technique. Plays loose, sounds tight, that’s where it’s at. Great bass line, but bassist doesn’t seem 100% comfortable here.

That was a fun song with a fantastic group performance.
Everybody in the group had their feature moment.
It was a very long song, too, from when FM Radio would play the long version of current hits.
The entire Radar Love song was 6 Minutes and 4 seconds.

KZEW 98 FM in Dallas was notorious for long version, unlike the Q102 up the dial.

Oh, you are seriously deprived, then. The entire Moontan album is excellent, with “Candy’s Going Bad” flowing into “Vanilla Queen”, forming a sort of musical novelette. It’s all well produced and recorded — You Tube doesn’t do it justice, and the better your sound system, the better, but, nonetheless:

The guitar solo midway through Vanilla Queen builds incredibly...

Golden Earring formed in 1961, had the same lineup since 1970, that has to be a record for longevity.

LOL, when they played Golden Earring on “Double Shot Tuesday”, you always knew which two songs they would play.

The drummer alone was worth the price of admission.
