Obvious solution: have CBS bring back the “CBS Late Night Movie”, which was never a movie at all, but old Kojak reruns, according to former “Late Show/Late Night” host David Letterman.

For a while CBS actually ran original programs after The Tonight Show. They were series that for some reason did not make the cut for prime time.

I worked swing shift,(for those of you who do not know what that is, Saturday and Sunday night I worked third shift Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I worked second shift) and so I would watch them when I got home after work.

Sometimes they would run series that were from Canada which were amusing.

For the first few years, it was movies — some good, some bad. After that it was mostly reruns of CBS shows, and even of older shows from other networks. There were also a lot of made for TV movies in those days that could be shown as repeats.

Nowadays, the networks aren’t even really making that many drama or comedy or mystery series. It seems like it’s mostly game shows and reality TV. Still, reruns might do better than Colbert did. They’d certainly lose the network less money.
