Nearly two decades ago a Freeper generously sent me a copy at his own expense of Witness, Whittaker Chamber's autobiographical account of his reformation from a communist spy to a capitalist who exposed the communist spy, Alger Hiss.

Whittaker Chambers was, to coin a phrase, there at the beginning. His communism was genuine and at the early stages in America. He certainly had the credentials to answer the question he posed for himself, why?

His answer was essentially that communists were communists because they would be God. God players do not find themselves constrained by the rules, Gods make the rules. So the very seductive siren of socialism offers easily navigable ground for the nimble man become God to rationalize every brain fart for the benefit of society and, equally, to rationalize and trivialize all the misery they cause.

Communism therefore is not essentially a manifestation of a misguided intellect but a spiritual cancer and the cure, therefore, cannot be to persuade the would be God with reason but to offer him an epiphany and a new birth.

A new man, as Whittaker Chambers became, finds himself very much in alignment with reason.

Agreed, but I have a theory that goes deeper. They can not accept that anything they believe to be true, abortion isn’t murder, no difference between men and women….. is not. To do so even on one small “belief “ would open them up to the possibility that other close held beliefs may also not be true. So they don’t and the won’t.

It is WAY easier to blame all your woes on some other nefarious undefinable tormentor. Jews, whites, corporations, ‘the man.’ Democrats and liberals understand this. They have throughout history to great effect and hundreds of millions have been killed by their evil dogma. The democrats are no different in stirring up irrational hatred to stay in power. It’s not that the democrat politicians have turned their cities in to feces covered drug dens. It’s that tax cut. Housing isn’t unaffordable because the democrats imported millions of illegal aliens and stuck them in all the open houses, it’s those evil republicans who didn’t agree to a “comprehensive immigration reform.” Prices aren’t high because democrats regulate everything, it’s those greedy CEOs.
