I’m curious as to why Trump picked that tune for his campaign theme song.

Maybe he just likes it. Crazy, I know.

He was given official permission by the band to use it.

If I were a campaign advisor, I would advise a song theme consistent with building a broad based, winning coalition
rather than a song based on the theme that we are a small, narrow dying clique.

All the other songs he used were challenged by the IP owners.

He wanted to use “We ain’t gonna take it any more,” but the “artists” wouldn’t let him.

Stupid them!

Not much they can do if the Trump campaign pays the ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC fees.

Does it pop up after every touchdown?

That's probably why he chose it. When I first heard it, I thought it was an ad for the Young Men's Christian Association, but I wondered why it lasted much longer than a minute, the length of most commercials.

Nonetheless, Trump supporters sang that song during a demonstration against Nikki Haley when she was addressing a fundraiser in Costa Mesa, Calif. early in the '24 campaign. We urged her supporters to come over and join us.

My suggestion to the Trump campaign was to use The Song of the Dawn as his campaign theme. Here Comes the Sun would also make for a great campaign song.

I have used Headin' for Better Times in some of my videos on the Trump campaign.

The Song of Dawn (1967) is a song about Ireland, not the USA, it is focused on the foilage of Ireland. It would seem not useful in a USA political campaign.

Here comes the Sun only has 1 meaningful line: “Little Darling”. How can that unify a coalition around a candidate

“This train is headed for better times.” evokes an image car users and plane users find does not describe them. It now evokes an AMTRAK on the wrong track.

I don't hear anything about Ireland in The Song of the Dawn. It's about emerging from night--or maybe from a bad time, like the Great Depression or the Biden years:

Yesterday the skies were gray
Look this morning they're blue
The smiling sun tells everyone
Come and start life anew
Sing hallelujah, for the dark night is gone
The world is singing the song of the dawn

There's nothing about a Little Darling in Here Comes the Sun. The song reflects my feeling on the morning of November 6, 2024:

Shadows creepin' round the world
Leavin' doubt and fear
Daylight soon will be unfurled
Look! The morning's here!

Kate's version sounds a bit somber, but Bert's version is more cheerful.

You have a point about "Heading for Better Times." Democrats like Gavin Newsom are the ones interested in choo-choo trains in an age of jet airliners.

But indeed, we could use a catchy tune inspiring unity for future campaigns.

There must be two: The Song of the Dawn and Here Comes the Sun as the ones I vaguely remember and confirmed on the internet are different from the ones you remember. As the ones I remember are the ones the internet remembers I assume they are the ones the voters would also remember.

There are several popular songs that share the same title but are completely different songs. Many here on FR will likely have another song in mind when they read these titles:

Tutti Frutti

Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying

Sugar, Sugar

Stairway to Heaven

The Boulevard of Broken Dreams
