Outraged flyer reveals what young child did in business class that 'ruined his flight' - are his complaints fair?

A United Airlines passenger was left infuriated over what he claimed was the bad behavior of a young child flying in the business class cabin.

Mitchell Miller shared two snaps of a little boy standing on his United Polaris seat on a transatlantic flight to Paris on his Threads account.

'An immature father who lets his son scream and shout and stand up in the seat and jump up and down so far for the whole flight,' Miller wrote.

'The kid hasn’t ST*U (shut the **** up) since we took off and daddy couldn’t care less. 4 hours, 52 minutes so far…2 more hours of this [expletive]. Can we get children under 12 banned from business class…please??'

The post sparked a fiery debate over whether kids should be allowed to fly business or first class, where seats cost thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.

'You should have shamed them more. Bad parents deserve it. This isn’t acceptable. Child is in a public place,' one comment agreed.

Another commenter shared a similar experience when they were on a flight with a child screaming for their mom, standing and jumping on their seat, and running up and down the aisles during a 7.5 hour business class trip.

'The whole cabin was fuming. A baby I get, like annoying but it’s a baby, this was a full child that they actively ignored and didn’t once attempt to calm down or discipline,' the comment continued.

I have a small child. There is some plane behavior you cannot control but I often see misbehaving kids where the parents make no attempt to mitigate the behavior. Were I this particular traveler that toddler would have picked up a few new phrases and bad behaviors. I mean if his parents dgaf, then why should I keep my behavior kid friendly.

“I remember a flight from Paris to JFK with a small child kicking the back of my seat all the way.”

There is a joke that goes something like this:

“People argue over which musician played the longest drum solo. I can say with certainty it was the child in the seat behind me on my flight from Paris to NY.”

It would be simple for the pilot to tell passengers that they need to remain seated & put their seatbelts on unless they need to use lavatory. That wouldn’t stop the kid from making noise, but at least he couldn’t stand & move around.

Years ago, while out to eat with my wife's mom, our daughter started making a fuss. I carried her outside and told her that the other people did not go to the restaurant to hear her, and if she did not behave we would stay outside until Mommy and Grandma finished eating. She quieted right down and all was fine.

Years later my wife and I took our two grandsons, about ages 4 and 6, to a local restaurant. We were seated near an older couple, each of whom gave us looks as if to say "Oh great, there goes our quiet evening". The boys were well-behaved, and when we left the man thanked us for teaching them such good manners.

My class of travel is irrelevant.
What is relevant is the child’s parent didn’t pay to use my seat back to entertain their child.

Guarantee the kid was white. Black mother would have slapped the kid down hard. Ain’t no liberal academia parenting in the Black community.

Theirs were, too, when I knew I wouldn’t get turned in for child abuse.

I remember being about 13 and my family was traveling. We stopped at a restaurant for dinner and I would not settle down. My mom warned me and I did know better, (she didn’t make idle threats) and I didn’t stop.

She reached over and gave me a backhand slap across the the mouth.

I was so embarrassed and mortified that I swore at that moment to never behave in public in a way to deserve a punishment like that again. Sadly, I did act up a a few family get togethers, but not anywhere else in public.

I’ve come a long way.......

- I remember a flight from Paris to JFK with a small child kicking the back of my seat all the way. -

On a flight years ago I had an aisle seat in the center section. The other four seats had a couple and two small children. I had had a bad week on the road and just after convincing myself it would be a miserable flight the father handed me a couple coupons for a free drink. As it turned out the kids were well-behaved and I arrived home in a good mood. :-)

I think more and more of theses stories get published and republished because they get good traffic.

Not sure the problem is actually worse. But I do see a lot of people of all ages who don’t seem to know how to interact with others any more.

Oh girl it’s getting worse at some churches too!

I’ve read stories of where parents let their toddlers run up and down the isle screaming. Let kids play with toys during the sermon and annoy others around them. Babies and toddlers will cry and parents won’t take them out. Moms change diapers during the service and leave the dirty diaper on the pew. Kids eating crackers and leaving crumbs everywhere.

Yea but what do we do as a society about bad parenting? Bad parenting only leads to more bad children.

I often lament that we didn’t develop and market a line of kid sized straight jackets.....we either would have been millionaires....or in jail. 😏

You would be in jail and probably sued into bankruptcy. Many people think using a child leash is child abuse.

We had a similar event happen at a local pizza place that he eat in dining.

I could see out of the corner of my eye, the older couple look at the kids (2,4,and 6) and each other and kind of look defeated, like they knew their meal was ruined.

When they left, they complimented us on the kid’s behavior. I also made sure the kids knew it as well.
