Except for that pesky addiction thing, nicotine is great!

The 'addiction thing' from cigarettes showed other ingredients (starts with 'p', 'pyrazines'?) that was part of the chemical package found in cigarettes. And that was several decades ago.

Nicotine is fatal to humans even in small doses. In humans, the median lethal dose is 0.5 to 1.0 mg/kg or around 40 to 60 mg in an average human

And today much smaller doses are being used (on patches) to de-toxify parasites from humans.

I started at 17. Back then it was ‘Kool’ to smoke Kools. Switched to Marlboro Reds and tried to quit countless times - cold turkey, chewing gum, nicotine gum, patches.... nothing worked (except the 1st 2 weeks of BMT until the TI said “smoke ‘em if you’ve got ‘em”,).

Similar experience. I had quit for a couple of years before BMT. During marching drills I saw smokers got to get off the hot pavement and stand under a shade tree and smoke. I started again just to have that break and get out of the Texas sun for a few minutes.

Does he not know that it’s the nicotine that causes damage to blood vessels and nerves? Causing heart attacks and strokes?

My husband smoked for over 50 years. He has copd and is on oxygen continuously and has had 3 strokes. With the help of the LORD, he quit about 5 years ago.

You forgot chocolate. It affects the same pleasure receptors as heroin. I’ve been fasting from chocolate for about two months, and I still crave it like crazy.

I was on ritalin for several years; never could tell I was on it; skipped it a lot of the time. Finally told the doctor I wasn’t going to take it anymore. Just stopped it altogether. No withdrawal symptoms. I’ve never tried any street drugs; never wanted to. Food is my only addiction.

"But so far so good... 63 and I’m still relatively healthy..."

The key is to have a little whiskey along with the smokes like Mr. Overton, Winston Churchill, me (not shown) etc....😀

Glad he was able to quit. Stinks that he has copd though. I didn’t quit early enough, but fortunately am not on oxygen, just am limited to what I can do.

“ And the fact it is a deadly poison.”

In sufficient quantity anything and everything is poison.

Never mind Tucker, I want to know what Steve Kornacki takes. Watching the election night videos, I’ve noticed he’s the only one person who can keep rattling on all night without wearing out.
But of all people to endorse chemical enhancement, Tucker — ? Makes me sad, though not surprised. Aliens started eating his brain a while back. I stopped watching.

Its the nicotine Jane. Its as addictive as heroin. The additives don’t help but its the nicotine.

When you find yourself’ sifting through the trash can early in the morning looking for a 2 inch cigarette butt that you can get a couple of puffs off of until you get to the store To buy a pack you’re an addict. Its that bad.

At least smoking a cigarette looks kind of cool, this is just lame.

As a non-smoker who has never smoked a cigarette, I will come to your dubious defense of smoking.

If there ever were any positives to smoking, it was the social interaction that surrounded smokers.

A big component of my education during my college years was exploring dive bars.

I would go to the bars for lunch where the food was often good and cheap.

I would go around “cocktail” hour although no one was drinking cocktails as it was mostly PBR on tap.

Well over half the bars were filled with smokers but there was friendly atmosphere of social interaction.

Not all dive bars were like that as you knew to avoid those places where folk went to brawl and it was just a routine night to have a fight or two.

But there were better conversations and “arguments” at those bars than can be had on an internet forum such as this one.

Those bars are mostly gone.

What remains is truly sad.

A place with video poker or some game that fuels the addiction of staring at a screen while continuing to feed the machine with filthy lucre.

Without smoking folk will probably live longer but will they live better?

I never smoked as it is terrible habit.

But I never judged smokers either.

We all have a way of finding our own terrible habit.
