Early Thursday morning, the U.S. Senate passed its version of the $9 billion rescission bill, bringing the country one step closer to ending the most egregious and indefensible federal spending in the modern era.
Public broadcasting.
The $500 million a year that taxpayers are forced to fork over for government radio and TV is such a small slice of the $7 trillion spending total, it’s more like a spending “scrape” than a cut. But what these federal funds lack in volume, they make up in stupidity.
Whatever the merits of a government-funded radio and TV network in the era of AM radios and VCRs, spending even a single dollar on broadcasting in the America of 2025 is beyond insane. There are literally more Americans who own cellphones than can receive an NPR radio signal.

there are 1000+ channels to watch, the government that is literally going broke doesn’t need to pay for another!
Most of the Sesame Street crowd are on their way to the old folks homes anyway. They’ve got their PBS tote bags packed and ready to go.
At the age of 56, Big Bird will finally have to support himself.
Trump killed BBBird!!!
Not sorry.
I didn’t let my kids watch it, started taking a social BS bend already back then.
If they want this thing to survive, they can advertise for sponsors, if they can’t get them, Darwin baby.
I am so glad to see PublicBS go. I’ve been waiting to see this propaganda outfit defunded for years. Good riddance, Big Bird!
Hahahahaha! 👍
I thought Sesame Street was its own thing and not funded by PBS at all? I recall reading that it makes money on its own and that PBS doesn’t even get first run showings of its episodes anymore. Which would mean it is unaffected by cuts to PBS?
Hopefull Lakshmi Singh hits the road too.
VCRs? What millennium is this guy living in?
The Red Cross receives NO federal funding and look what that organization is able to do.....and in the case of npr, the Red Cross isn’t just running their mouth and spreading propaganda.
Thank God.
I always hated Sesame Street.
Maybe now, don't know, but they did start back in 1969. Did they ever give back that taxpayer funding back to the taxpayers? I doubt it and there is the famous Bill Clinton quote(paraphrasing), Republicans are trying to defund Big Bird.
What with all the Sesame Street stuff that’s sold, that can’t support the show?
Someone is scamming the system.
My mistake. I misread the sentence.
Note to the UK: This is how it’s done.
What in Hades are you waiting for?!
sniff. no more funding of Christiane Amanpour. sniff.sniff.
PBS doesn’t exist to make money.
It exists to launder it.
