Study finds no evidence aluminum salts in vaccines are tied to higher risk of asthma, other childhood diseases

When anti-vaccine activists and others argue that the immunizations used to protect children from infectious diseases are risky, they often point to aluminum salts, a product added to many childhood vaccines to increase their effectiveness.

A new large study from Denmark directly counters those claims. After mining the vaccination and medical records of more than 1.2 million children over a 24-year period, researchers could see no evidence that exposure to aluminum in vaccines led to a statistically significant increase in a child’s risk of developing any of a wide variety of conditions that can be diagnosed in childhood, including asthma and autism.

None of the 50 conditions the group looked at — broadly categorized as relating to autoimmune diseases, allergy, and neurodevelopmental disorders — occurred at statistically higher levels than would be expected, ruling out moderate or substantially increased risk from exposure to aluminum in vaccines, a finding senior author Anders Hviid described as “quite striking.”

“We can exclude meaningful increases with a large degree of certainty for many of these outcomes,” Hviid, who heads the department of epidemiology research at the Statens Serum Institut, Denmark’s public health agency, told STAT in an interview.

“We should not be concerned about aluminum used as an adjuvant in childhood vaccines. I think that’s the core message.”

You can’t look at the medical histories of everyone that TOOK the vaccines and then claim there’s no statistical difference.

To be included in our study, children needed to be alive at age 2 years, not have emigrated from Denmark, not have been diagnosed with certain congenital or preexisting conditions (including congenital rubella syndrome, respiratory conditions, primary immune deficiency, and heart or liver failure), and not have received an implausible number of vaccines (Supplement Table 1, available at Annals.org). In addition, we excluded children whose mothers had not lived in Denmark for at least 2 years before childbirth.

So they studied the kids who ...

1) survived past two years
2) were healthy at two years (no respiratory, immunicological, organ failure issues)
3) and, were not vaccinated toooo much

Ignore the sick babies, and the ones who didn't survive, and the ones that didn't get too vaccinated, and for that subgroup "small relative effects" were noted in the vaccination group. And that's a good thing?

I gave up reading the study and searched it instead for the phrase "control group" and found none. So ... comparing the sick to the sick and not finding dramatic differences in their sickness. Whatevs.

AND it sure seems like, most importantly, they DID NOT conduct a study with the same vaccines WITHOUT the aluminum, and compare those results to the vaccines that include it.

But, after all, this is SCIENCE!

that’s one way to put it ... and yet ANOTHER way to put it is that adjuvants like aluminum salts are added to weak vaccines to provoke the immune system into vastly abnormal levels of reactivity because weak vaccines wouldn’t otherwise function in a NORMAL immune system ...

i’ve always wondered: what ELSE would an adjuvanted super reactive immune system react to that it wouldn’t react to otherwise? Do adjuvants increase the probability of provoking latent autoimmune diseases into overt, life-time auto-immune diseases ...
