The Dutch PEGIDA leader Edwin Wagensveld has been featured in this space a number of times (most recently here). He is renowned for his Islamophobic acts, the most controversial of which is the burning of a Koran. In the following video, which was recorded on the street near the recent NATO conference in The Hague, Mr. Wagensveld tries a different tactic: he repeatedly drops a Koran on the ground and steps on it. To be struck or touched with a shoe is considered the vilest of insults in Islam, so putting one’s foot on a Koran is doubly blasphemous.
In his remarks, Mr. Wagensveld indicates that he is not allowed to burn the Koran. I’m not sure why that is, since he has done it in the past without being prosecuted, and as far as I know there is no law against the act (yet) in The Netherlands. Perhaps the police told him they could provide no protection if he were to burn a Koran.
It takes a lot of police to protect him while he steps on the Koran. A Muslim man repeatedly attempts to get past the police cordon to rescue the holy book, but can’t get through. He reacts by getting on his cell phone to summon a flash mob of fellow Muslims (presumably including dozens of his cousins) to come and support him. Not long after that Mr. Wagensveld takes the advice of the police and brings his event to a close.
This process of intimidation is an illustration of why Islam is winning in Western Europe. Muslims may not yet have a majority of young men of fighting age, but they will shortly. And even if they don’t, their ability to summon a violent mob of co-religionists at short notice is unmatched by anything the natives can manage. You would be hard-pressed to find more than a handful of young Dutch men willing to stand on a street corner and defend Edwin Wagensveld with their fists.
That’s why Islam will eventually be victorious in Europe. They are outbreeding the natives, and are already able to out-punch them.
