Capsular tension ring (CTR) implantation is associated with improved stability of the intraocular lens (IOL), according to a review.
Haowen Lin, M.D. and colleagues examined the association of CTR implantation with IOL position in a systematic review and meta-analysis that included 11 randomized clinical trials and seven cohort studies, with 809 eyes with CTR and 822 eyes without CTR.
The researchers found that compared with the control group, the IOL tilt and rotation were smaller in the CTR group (mean difference, −1.04 and −0.82 degrees, respectively). Heterogeneity between the subgroups stratified according to IOL haptic design was seen in the subgroup analysis of anterior chamber depth, decentration, and tilt. In addition, compared with the control group, the CTR group showed a deeper anterior chamber depth in eyes implanted with plate haptic IOLs (mean difference, 0.11 mm) and a smaller IOL tilt in highly myopic eyes (mean difference, −1.43 degrees).
"These findings support the use of CTR implantation when toric IOLs have been implanted or in cases of high myopia," the authors write. "The clinical relevance of these findings merits further investigation."

Note that they haven’t shown a clinical difference-even for the groups mentioned.
Also on at least some of the patients they were using plate haptoc iol’s which almost no one in the US uses anymore. (Study was done in China).
