At 66 years old, one Sherman Oaks, California-based mom thought she'd be enjoying an empty nest with her husband. Instead, she's sharing her home with an unexpected roommate: her 27-year-old daughter.
Since their 27-year-old moved back home in early 2024, the mother, who asked to remain anonymous to protect her daughter's identity, says she and her husband are spending close to $5,000 a month covering all of her daughter's living expenses. This includes up to $1,500 on food, $700 on transportation and $400 on her pet cat, the mother says.

Consuming $1500 a month in chow makes that seem unlikely.
three hots and a cot is all i offer
I have an 11 year old cat and have not spend one dime on vet costs in those 11 years. I feed her tuna/sardines with cut up french style green beans (for fiber), and sometimes leftover chicken and it costs around $25 a month to do so. She is healthy and spritely and still catches mice in the spring.
That was my thought, too. Crazy.
Well, if you boomers hadn’t screwed the system up so bad, the kids might be able to support themselves.
Our youngest moved back in with us after finishing her masters degree. She works full time remotely, has a part time job just because she gets free stuff for her hobby (yarn mainly) as a benefit and has already put back over 50k in savings in about 2 years. Love having her home to keep my wife company when I can’t.
These parents obviously didn’t raise their kid right.
They’re enabling her.
They have no one to blame but themselves.
Could have been another Bee headline.
At least the people most responsible for her being so spoiled are the ones paying for it.
Oh man, it never ends.
Quit blame shifting.
Take some responsibility for yourselves.
The girl could go out and find a job.
stop it........................
The deficit spending and inflation was created by Democrats, not “boomers”.
Parents are sacrificing for their adult children
The parents from Sherman Oaks say their relationship with their daughter has become so strained that they’ve turned to Kim Muench, a parenting coach who specializes in young adults, for guidance.
My kids all moved out by 19 or 20 and are doing well. our youngest moved out of state for a job at 18. a year or so ago he decided to move back and get a local job. I told him he could stay with us for two weeks then he was out on his own.
He had an apartment lined up before he moved so not one day.
His apartment doesn’t have laundry so he asked if he could do his laundry at our house.
“Sure, you cut the grass while you’re washing your clothes.”
Wow, did that ever work out well.
The parents in the article are idiots and did a horrible job raising their daughter. Total failures.
Sarcasm? If not, be grateful you live in a country where you are free and can make a living if you try. Not all boomers are tools (vast majority).
Just a wild guess but her purple hair, tattoos and nose piercing probably doesn't sit well at interviews. Also, I'm guessing she could lose about 200 pounds if she consumes $1500 of food a month..
Yep comets is wrong.
This proves my theory that girls are much, much smarter than boys.
Stupid boys settle for living in their parent’s basement playing video games just mooching room and board with free laundry service and meals with no 4 digit a month allowance.
