At 66 years old, one Sherman Oaks, California-based mom thought she'd be enjoying an empty nest with her husband. Instead, she's sharing her home with an unexpected roommate: her 27-year-old daughter.
Since their 27-year-old moved back home in early 2024, the mother, who asked to remain anonymous to protect her daughter's identity, says she and her husband are spending close to $5,000 a month covering all of her daughter's living expenses. This includes up to $1,500 on food, $700 on transportation and $400 on her pet cat, the mother says.

I pray no man finds out what a useless parasite this week man is after putting a ring on her.
I have a very faithful kitty that I probably don’t spend $400 a YEAR on.
Most likely.
Funny, no mention of the daughter’s job.
I feel sorry for the poor sap who chooses to make her his wifey.
I pray no man finds out after putting a ring on her what a parasite she is.
I’d say she’s probably unemployed.
“How is a single person spending $1,500 a month or $50 a day on food? Is she dining out for every meal?”
Starbucks lattes?
Out she goes....Get a job...
$5,000 a month expenses while living with the parents.
That’s some good living she has going there.
There’s some sort of unstated drug or mental health problem here.
The ‘cost’ of having an adult child back home would be the additional groceries and utilities consumed by an additional person.
If that ‘child’ is earning $0.00; maybe they are also covering that ‘child’s’ debt also, such as car and student loan payments.
On the extreme outside; maybe $2,000.00 per month; but not $5,000.00.
The story doesn’t add up.
That and she probably has her all of meals at Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse or Red Lobster.
How the hell is this news?
Is she hot?
Right now.
I’d give her six weeks to get out. Back in day, it’d be a week, but it is harder today.
There's a big difference between her being on the street - and spending $5000 per month to maintain your daughter's entitled lifestyle.
We had three boys. When they graduated from high school, we broke their plates. All three joined a branch of the military. Army became a civilian Fire Department Captain/EMS, Air Force (now retired and doing the same type job as a civilian) and Navy State Prison correctional officer. They all have their own families.
