YouTube has announced it will stop monetizing content featuring AI-generated videos starting July 15, 2025. This bold policy update is designed to address growing concerns about the authenticity, quality, and ethical implications of synthetic media on the platform.
The rise of generative AI tools has made it easier than ever to create convincing videos with minimal human input. While this technology has enabled creativity and accessibility, it has also led to a flood of low-quality, misleading, or entirely fabricated content. Advertisers and viewers alike have raised concerns about the potential for misinformation, copyright violations, and brand safety risks.
According to YouTube’s updated guidelines, AI-generated videos are defined as content where the primary visuals or audio are created by artificial intelligence, with little to no human involvement. This includes:
Fully AI-animated or deepfake videos
AI-generated voiceovers or music tracks
Synthetic news reports, interviews, or fictional characters
Videos that use AI tools to mimic real people or events
YouTube’s decision sets a precedent that other major platforms may follow as the debate over synthetic media intensifies. The policy will likely drive further discussion about transparency, copyright, and the evolving role of AI in creative industries.

All you AI are belong to us!
Good evening in some cases be valid? One thing if they’re trying to put something else is a real person but there could be training videos that don’t maintain that?
That’ll curb AI videos - the creators are doing it for money, not as a hobby.
I can’t stand the amount of AI videos. Quality of content has fallen off a cliff.
Yes, the AI voices also mispronounce words. That’s very annoying.
its gotten really bad on youtube-
I’m sure that YouTube will also use this to mess with unfavorable content creators by claiming legit content is AI generated slop.
AI is going to make us crave Taylor Swift.
They need to come up with new standards. By itself, AI should not be a reason for demonetization. However, you have people who will type two words and from those words produce a 15 minute video from AI. That should not be monetized.
Only big tech is allowed to make money from AI peons !
Over the past month, or two, my YouTube has exploded with AI generated content to a point where I am becoming reluctant to visit YouTube.
I agree. And Amazon should not sell AI generated books.
Good! There is way too much of it on YouTube. Its annoying.
How can they tell the difference?
(And I bet if it is anti-MAGA/Right of “center”, it will stay up.)
So were the ones of Trump and Elon dancing.
"claiming legit content is AI generated slop"
My favorite are the “new car model” videos featuring updated classics, like Pontiac Trans Ams. Wait, didn’t Pontiac get shut down? What?
In typical AI fashion, the images morph into something different during the course of the video.
My thing is the AI producing no real informative content. It’s no better than doing a web search for a topic and verbally reading whatever preview text shows up on each search result.
